Carl Rogers says he will join GOP
The move would mean that it would be the first time in history that all members of Hall's state House delegation would be of one party.
Area Republicans praised news reports that State Rep. Carl Rogers of Gainesville plans to make a switch to the Republican Party next week. Local Democrats, however, voiced disappointment about the move.
"We're encouraging more conservative Democrats like him to make such a move in order to get the governor's agenda through the House," said Joe Cwik, chairman of the Hall County Republican Party.
Local Democrats hope to stem the flow of party switchers.
"Poor Carl Rogers, is what I have to say about his move to change parties," said Gainesville attorney Joseph D. Cooley III.
"Now Carl Rogers is going to be anti-gay and anti-affirmative action and is going to have to pass all of his views past the Christian Coalition," said Cooley, a Hall Democrat.
