my main concern right now is that i'am installing Windows XP for the first time. are there some things i need to pay careful attention to?
any other tips on the hardware components will be greatly appreciated

thanks in advance

Yeah... remember that unless the computer is unplugged, or the power supply has a hard power switch, there's power going to all the slots, RAM, and processor even if the computer is "shut down."

Safest thing is to unplug before adding / changing resources.

Congrats, good luck
