Ok I have Windows ME clean install running on my laptop.
I am in the process of ordering more memory so I can install and use Windows 2000 on this system. (currently have 32 but system can go up to 160 max)

My question is that compaq has formatted the hard drive into 2 partitions, with one of the partitions being a system save. I have formatted both drives with no problems.

Can I repartition this drive into one drive letter (C: ) instead of two when I install Windows 2000?

Also will the restore cd restore the partitions that came from the factory install, should I sell this laptop to someone else? (C:,D: )
In other words if I make the drive 1 partition will the restore cd still work?

also is it important to install the Hibernation stuff for compaq? this takes up like 400 + megs on my small 4 gig drive. If I do not install it I get a warning message in the bios saying cant save to system save, blah blah blah has been disabled. It does not effect boot up however. Although I am still able to hibernate inside of windows me.

Except for the warning message and/or no bios viewing tools, I have had no problems with making a compaq's hard drive one partition. Most of the time I will install the setup/diag utilities just as a courtesy to the next tech that will have to work on the system.

EDIT: The resore CD will return the laptop to its factory settings.

great, that will allow me to make the partitions again, etc... if I sell the laptop down the road.

thats good. should I go ahead and install the hibernation thing to get rid of the error message, or just leave it as is?
only reason I am asking this is it takes up like 1/8 of my total Hard drive space

If you don't mind the error message, go ahead. You can even use it to give someone a good scare, tell them "You crashed my system!". ;)

I actually dont even see the message unless I press the ESC key to get rid of the huge COMPAQ logo during bootup :)
