Partition Software for Windows 2000 Server

Hey guys

I'm running Windows 2000 Server and I need to re-structure my partition table. But when I tried to install Partition Magic, it wouldn't work because it's not compatible with server OS's.

My question is, does anyone know of a place I can get software that will work? I've downloaded a couple of demos, but none would let me implement changes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I'd hate to have to format the drive again 🙁

If you do reformat, PM can be used to set up blank partitiona, it doesn't turn on the block until it detects an installed server OS. The partitions are (as you probably guessed) completely compatible with server OSs, they just want you to pay $1,000 for a server version that works exactly the same as the regualr PM.

Well that's a bunch of poop... 🙁 lol

So I just boot into DOS mode, or install a DOS version?

Hey I can also make DOS boot disks... hmm...

yes, but even for the DOS version it stops working as soon as it detects a server OS on any partition.

If the OS drive is under 32 MB you can use PM version 4 even with a server OS. PM 4 doesn't have the server block but it als doesn't support larger drives. D'oh!

The latest version of Partition Magic (v8.0+) should work on Server. I didn't believe it either when I asked someone at work, but he does it for a living and it did actually work when he gave me the disc to try it.

I know Server Magic worked for NT Server, but I don't know about WIN2k.

I have PM8 and it doesn't work, it says setup has detected I'm running NT4, 2K or .Net server and will stop.

I'll try that link you provided above Pretty Cool. Thanks 🙂

In addition to the above linked software, for any further interest...

PowerQuest VolumeManager
PowerQuest
DeployCenter

The later is probably a bit of overkill though 😉 Both are a bit more expensive than a 30 day free trial too.
