Partition Size Question

I'm doing a clean install on a brand new 160GB SATA hard drive with Windows XP Professional.


Any recommendations on partition size?

I use a 10GB size for my C:\ partition that contains XP SP2 and all my applications. I've got a good many applications installed and about 6.5GB are in use (3.5GB free). All my games are installed on the 2nd partition (D:\) and all data, downloads, pictures, MP3s, etc., are on the 3rd partition (E:\)

Unless you are planning on installing several apps that eat up the drive space, 10-15GB should be fine for just the OS and main programs.

Id leave @ least 40gb for the win xp drive, but thats just me

I just go with one big partition. These days makes no real difference, what with a 160 gb sata drive.

I've been using 10GB partitions for OS and apps which makes for easy re-imaging and gives me a greater storage amount for data. Lately, when I download three or four 2-3 GB movies, precluding moving my temporary internet cache location, I'll run out of room on the C drive, even if I save them to my D drive. So, I'm thinking about upping my C drive to 20 GB.

It does when you want to reinstall the OS and keep all your data intact.

agreed, if you ever need to reformat it is a really good idea to keep windows on a separate partition.
