I'm thinking about putting WinXP Pro on its own partition when I put my new system together next week. I have 2 WD HDs, 120gb and 100gb. What's a good size to use? 3GB? 5GB?

The size of the partition could vary greatly depending on the number of updates/SP's you install, the size of the swap file, etc.

The bare minimum I'd use would be 5gb, but I'd be a little hesitant to use that. A partition in the 6 to 8gb would be fine for XP Pro.

8GB is too small; once a small C partition gets about half full it really slows down. Sometimes it is hard to separate drivers or other programs from the OS. C is the inside portion of the disk and it is slower than the outer portion. For all those reasons make C big. Now I use 16GB with 5+GB used, it is faster than 8GB with 4+GB used.
