i tried to run partition magic 6 in win2k to resize my ntfs partition, but partition magic reported that my partition was created using the wrong geometry and should delete and create another one....well here what i did, i booted up with a win98 boot disk, fdisk to delete ntfs partition, create a new one, install win2k and converted to ntfs...ran partition again...got the same problem, partition made with wrong geometry...how do i create a partition with the correct partition...i just want to resize it and make it smaller...please help

You can boot using the win 2k Cd and create the partitions as you are installing win 2k. You don't need to first create fat32, install and then convert to NTFS. YOu can also specify whatever size you want while installing.

can't seem to boot from win2k cd...i'm able to boot from the cdrom drive, but not from the win2k cd...dunno why...i am able to boot from other cds tho...like norton and stuff...just not win2k

Why not try using the "disk management" tool in "administrative tools -> computer management" in w2k?

If you want to do this, there was a thread in either this forum or in the technical support about how to create a bootable win 2k CD with the service pack.

if that a bootleg copy, OEM, retail, or Microsoft Select? It should be bootable on all of them but the bootleg is questionable.

Can you just delete the mischevious partition in PartitionMagic? If not, do so with fdisk, then use PM to make the NTFS volume you want.
