Partition Magic Vs Windows Disk Manager

I'm in the process of preparing a new 120gb for use and wondered if it made a difference which application I used to format the drive? I already partitioned the drive into 2 partitions via the XP setup process, but wondered about formatting the second partition. Is using Partition Magic just to format a wise choice, or does it not really matter? I did already partition it with the Windows app, but I lost around 8GB of space. I realize that the drive is not a true 120gb, but it seems like from what I read, I should at least get 115gb or so. Would partition magic do a more effiecient job and not make me lose as much HD capacity? 112gb might just won't be enough for me :)

A drive advertised as 120GB, as measured in decimal format is actually recognized by the OS as a drive with a capacity of 111.76GB. (When advertising hard drives, the binary system is used, where 1GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes, while the computer recognizes 1GB as being 1,073,741,824 bytes). This differance is a function of measurement, not the software used to format your drive.

And, to answer your question, it makes no difference what you use to format the drive. It's all the same in the end. Either option will result in a formatted partition that is identical.
