Partition magic problems

My laptop hdd ran out of space, I decided to clone it to a larger hdd. I put both drives in my sons PC. It has a 1.5 tb hdd split 200gb/1.3 gb. I installed part magic. It warned of not getting along with win7 but I proceeded anyway. When started it gave file system errors and my dumbass said ok to the fix. After I restarted the system just bsod.

I'm not sure what it did to the drives but all have gotten funky. I can see them with acronis but cannot do anything with them. No programs will do anything to the drives. Windows does not see them. I am going to get a external drive to try to recover drives to, using segate recovery as it sees the info. Will the recovery copy the file system errors or just the info? Any ideas to a easier fix? Thanks.

A few more thoughts. Acronis sees the partitions but also next to both partitions it sees the drive a a whole unallocated. And they are ntfs in ptedit.

Partition Magic is quite long in the tooth. It really does not get along well with anything after 98. Windows 7 can create partitions easily. For greater capability that is fully compatible with current OS's, try GParted - free.

Without being there or getting details about the partitions, this won't be an easy diagnosis over a forum. Luckily you mentioned that you just cloned the drive, so I would just re-clone it again instead of doing a recovery.

The cloning never happened. It just totally screwed all drives then quit working. I am recovering now and seams to be working well. Just taking a long time. The 1.5 tb drive was almost full.

Try Partition Wizard for partitioning operations in Windows 7. Much more up to date and works well with Win 7 in my experience.
