I was checking out video games at Dragon.ca during their 50% deal. I noticed they had Partiton Magic 8 for $39.95 (USD). With the 50% off code that makes this ~$20. There is a $20 upgrade rebate here. This is a link to the rebate on CompUsa's website...but it is a manufacturers upgrde rebate and the form can be used by anyone. The form may even come in the box. As long as there is no exclusion for buying the software from Canada...this should be basicly free or the cost of shipping for upgraders!!!

Coupon says offer good in US and Canada...so we are good...while there is stock!!!

++**The deal is most likely dead now as the website has a message that the clearance is over and they are doing inventory. I just want an answer to the OEM question.

Very nice deal. Their feedback in ResellerRatings is a mixed bag. About half (or so) seemed to be displeased with the service in the event that there were problems with the order. However, I'm feeling lucky and just ordered. Thanks chrisjor.

How much was shipping to USA?

[EDIT]

I just saw this on their FAQ page:

"But when we bill you, we bill in Canadian dollars and it's your credit card company that makes the conversion to your local currency."

Do you think that since the receipt will be in Canadian dollars, there will be any problem with getting the rebate processed?

Well, I took the gamble on the international rebate. :)

However, it seems that their site is not using a current value of the US to Canadian $ in its calculation. Yahoo Finance is showing a current conversion rate of 1.521. This makes the US price higher than advertised, at 38.98/1.521=US$25.63 including shipping. So, with the rebate (hoping that it will go through), the final cost should be about US$5.63.

partition is very, very slow when it come to formatting your hd. You would be better off with DOS format, which would take about 15min for 60gb or 120gb. with PM, the bigger your drive the slower it is. It took me 2 hours to format 60gb. Even resizing is very slow, i wish there are better alternative. It seem to hang on you too if you have any bad cluster, as it doesn't mark bad cluster or fixes them like dos format/full scandisk... kinda risky when using PM, backup everything! Grrr so time consuming!

I agree.....when I used PM 6...I thought something was wrong. It took so long to get anything done. But for this price I will give it a try.

I think we are alright...the rebate coupon states...."Offer vaild in the U.S. and Canada, but paid in U.S. funds."

PM by default thoroughly scans your HD for errors while it is partitioning it. You can turn this feature off if you know your HD is good and PM will run much faster.

A warning on the upgrade rebate. It's only good on the retail boxed version. Dragon.ca does not say if this is retail boxed or OEM. I'm guessing it is OEM for $39.95. I ordered PM8 from Gogamer.com a few weeks ago and they said it was retail boxed but they sent me the OEM version which consisted of the CD inside the manual in a shrink wrapped package. It did not come with an upgrade rebate in the package whereas the retail box does. Also, the rebate form says you need the original rebate form and "photocopies" will not be accepted. The electronic form looks like a "photocopy." You may want to call them first to very if it's retail boxed or OEM.

UPDATE: While checking out the other software in the business section I noticed that the prices are for OEM.

Ouch...now I am concerned!! I emailed customer support about the issue and will report back...maybe folks should wait. I will not be cancelling my order no matter what, I want this product and I feel that if the rebate does not work..it is still worth the $20 I'll end up paying for it. Sorry folks...I had no reason to believe that this was OEM. Hopefully I will have an answer in time for people to cancel if they'd like.

Hopefully it is not OEM, as I look around the website the products that are OEM are clearly marked.

Got mine today (that was fast). However, it is not in a retail box. :( It is a Quick Start Guide and a CD in plastic shrink warp. OEM.

There is a UPC code on it though. I guess I'll try and send it in for the rebate anyhow.

I got the same exact thing. I am going to check in a store and see if the UPC's are in anyway similar. They nrver did respond to my email...they also sent me a PC game instead of the PS2 game I ordered!!!! My apologies to everyone. I will certainly never do business with these amateur thieves ever again. I am gonna try to tank all of the ratings they have at any location I can find!!!!

The other night, i resize my 60gb harddrive which is like 50gb filled and everything froze up! god, I was so worried, my pants began to leak! OK, so i had my fingers crossed and then i waited 3 hours and then it phase 2 of 4. PHEW!!! ok so after 8 hours it was done. All I want was to convert primary partition to secondary/logical, then resize to make primary 2gb, and logical 58gb. This took so long that had the powers went out, i would lost everything since I was too lazy to backup. Scared the crap out of me, I'd never do that again! I am using version 7.0 btw and I see no point in getting 8.0 as it is getting slower to suit the need of faster processor. Like drive image 4.0 is much faster then 5.0, since 5.0 has all these extra feature that you don't need/slows everything down to a crawl.

I checked the UPC numbers when I ordered this from Gogamer.com and received the OEM instead of retail. The UPC numbers do not match. However, I still sent my rebate in using the UPC sticker on the OEM package and the PDF rebate form. You're supposed to send the retail box UPC and use an original form. I figured it wouldn't hurt to try for the rebate.

Well, I just got back from Staples and the UPC #'s do not match. I am going to send it in anyhow. The most maddening thing here is that they did not describe this as OEM as they did other products on the website. It has been 5 days since they shut off the website...they never replied to my email and now I can't even email them because the website is dead!!!

I feel horrible that others ordered this thinking it may be free...once again..my most humblest of apologies, I am thoroughly embarrased!!!

On the other hand...if I am stuck with this at ~$20 - $25, personally I will not be too upset as I did want the product and I still feel (for me) this was a reasonable price. And yes, I will be having a conversation with my credit card company about the complete and utter lack of regard they have shown for my order. Half of it was not fulfilled, and what was, for the most part, was incorrect. Of the six items I ordered I only received three...one was an OEM version which I thought would be Retail (PM 8), and they sent me a $5.00 pc game instead of the $20 PS2 game which I ordered. I ordered the PS2 game Hidden Invasion..and received the PC game Hidden & Dangerous!! At least they both had the word Hidden in common. They did get the $2.00 pc game correct though. I will never order from Dragon.ca and I will actively work to keep others from doing so as well!!!

I bought a previous version of PM from this outfit. Son of a gun. When I went to register so I could use it, guess what? The Serial # had already been registered! Got no satisfaction from Dragon until I got my CC company involved. My recommendation--steer clear of this outfit. Just my $.02

Surprise, surprise. I received the rebate today even though this was an OEM product. I'm glad I sent the rebate in anyhow! :)
