This isn't really clear to me but here's my answer based off of what I gather. Windows XP can read FAT partitions so you can use it with Windows XP no problem. However if you format it to NTFS (recommended) Windows 9x (95,98,ME) wont be able to read it.

Everyone here is right but i think the question is can 98 be formated so it can read an NTFS partition and the answer is no.

If you want NTFS, go 2k or make the move to XP.

i didn't think this question would be so confusing, sorry
well i did figure it out
i was trying to read my harddrive that i had on my old 98 machine from my new XP machine to get some stuff from it
but xp wasn't able to read the drive so i opened up partition magic and it had Type 44 written for that drive as a partition type instead of FAT or NTFS
so i went to their knowledgebase and it said i cant read it cause Adaptec GoBack is installed on it

NEW QUESTION
so i have to disable goback now that is another problem cause i cannot get that drive to start up Win98
it gives me errors when its booting
i havent seen it for a little while but i am pretty sure it says disk error
i know that it is all set up right as a master so i dunno why that wont work
is there other reasons i can get a disk error??

I originally thought GoBack was the greatest thing since sliced bread. But after running it for a while, it's pretty much the system hog. But I guess for what it does, it needs to be.
I'd suggest regular back ups with Drive Image along with burning updated data to a CD-RW disk.

I wish disabling GoBack was as easy as just checking a box... But Nooooooooo! :p

Um, isn't disabling it as simple as pressing Spacebar before the PC loads Windows, and selecting "Disable Goback"? Or am I thinking of Second Chance?
