I'm hoping they will take the orignal partition magic 6 CD that was collecting dust.. I have no other proofs of purchase.
(OT(sorry)) Is it possible to have more than 4 partitions on an HD w/ this? I was hoping to have 1 FAT16 for legacy, 3 FAT32 for XP, 98SE, and apps, as well as 2 for Linux native/swap. Grateful for any help. Thanks.

The rebate requires the serial number of your earlier version. Mine was in an appendix in the manual. It's probably on the CD as well--my CD was stolen :-(

I agree, Partition Magic is a very good and useful software. This in addition to Norton Systemworks Pro 2002 (with Norton Ghost) allows you complete control of the harddrive. I have a total of 250 gigs in 60, 60, 100, and 30 and backing up resizing and cloning partitions is simple and easy. Drivemapper is also an excellent program that allows you to change references to the CDROM when you install a new drive and the drive letter changes. I have a 4 active partition multiboot primary Harddisk(2 WinMe and 2 WinXP). I currently have Partition Magic 6. With PM 7, I will be able to upgrade to NTFS finally . Now if only there is a good deal on PCAnywhere 10.5

<< Yeah baby. This software rocks if you have a big hard drive and want to have some control on it. >>

Maybe a true statement a few months ago. But since its limited to 80GB drives or smaller it actually SUCKS if you have large hard drives. With 2 100GB and a 120GB in the house, PM 7 isn't much use to me :disgust:

Nope only 4 primary partitions, one of which can contain any number of logical partitions. Some of those OSs can be installed on logical partitions though and why waste a primary on apps?. More than 4 would be better but you can get by with 4.

After PM 6, I won't use Powerquest products anymore. They really push how PM eliminates the need to back up everything before repartitioning, but its not true. In addition, they have stopped updating products and failed to notify registered customers when routine Windows updates rendered their product dangerous.

PM 4 trashed one of my hard drives and they quickly put out a patch before the original PM 4 even had time to get cold on the shelves. Good that they released a patch but it makes a joke out of the statements about not needing to do backups.

PM 6 trashed a drive after Win2K SR2 was applied. It seems that Powerquest knew about this but didn't email registered users. And now they apparently have a policy of not doing updates any more. If you look at the update page you will see that there were multiple updates for PM 4, one for PM 5 (Win2K support) and NONE for PM6 although ther are still thousands of users who don't even realize the next time they use it it could destroy their drives. In fact, it seems apparent that the main reason they didn't update PM 6 to work with Win2K SR2 was because doing so would also make it work with XP. So bug fixes are now "upgrades". Remember that the the big selling point of PM 7 is XP support. How will you like it when an XP update breaks PM 7 and Powerquest won't fix it, or tell you about it, or have a new release until XP's successor comes along? In case you are wondering, no I did not lose anything (except hours restoring everything) when PM trashed my disks twice; I just think Powerquest has gone way down hill since the early days and PM is now an iffy product with terrible support.

I like PM and have used it for years but their customer service is AWFUL. Send in a CS request via their website and you'll invariably get a response from one Jenny Escobar, who in my experience has not the faintest clue how to resolve anything. Jenny ALWAYS directs me--in robotic fashion--to contact Customer Service, then signs her e-mail "Jenny Escobar, Customer Service." Try calling the CS number, stay on hold 30 minutes, give up.

I have what may be a "dumb" question.

I just ordered Norton System Works 2002 which includes Norton Ghost. With Norton Ghost, do I really "need" Partition Magic?

Anyone?

Thanks!............:)

Just pricematched at Staples B&M, added a pencil, got the total over $30 and used my 10 off 30 coupon (found here). A great deal for $20!!! Thanks.

While Nortion Ghost and PM have the ability to copy partitions, PM has the added capability of resizing and moving partitions. I use this frequently to adjust the relative disk space between partitions. While PM can clone partitions, I noticed that it adds a user prompt at boot which asks if you want to boot windows or the partition copied from disk X. An inconvenience if you have setup your pc to wake up via the motherboard and expect windows to load and run software automatically when you are away from your desk. Norton Ghost does not add this user prompt. I have a 100 gig WD drive from the Sam's club deal and am using PM 6 with no problems. However my 100 gig is used for data only and is not multipartion/multiboot hd. Ultimately it depends on what you need to do with your hd if you want to go with both Norton Ghost and PM.

For what it's worth, I'm currently running off of a 120GB drive I easily partitioned with PM7. I've got one primary fat32 partition, one logical NTFS partition, and two logical fat32 partitions.

No problems whatsoever.

It may be a small comfort, but at least they were relatively prompt (6 weeks)in sending me my upgrade rebate earlier this year. YMMV

Any partitions start above 80GB?
