partition and format for XP?

Hey, I wasn't able to do a clean install when I installed XP, and I have run into a few problems. I figure it would all get cleared up if I did a clean install, however there are a lot of things that I would like to stick around (dv, photo's, mp3's type stuff). I was curious if it is possible to partition, as I have never done one, part of my hard drive (say 20 gig of a 60 gig HD) and then do a clean install of XP?

Any help would be much appreciated.

yes you can make an additional partition on your drive then move all your files over to that partition and install on your newly created partition , but youll have to use some sort of partitioning program such as partition magic in order to do this, just remember that when you install you put the OS on the new partition and not where your files are at

So in order to partition I need to get that program (or a similar one)?

I was actually going to move the things I want to save to the new partition (the smaller one) and then format the remaining one and do a clean install on that one. Does that sound fine?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm a bit hesitant having never done it before.

yeah thats what i meant put all your files on the newly created partition then install on the remander of the drive

and yeah youll need a partitioning software

Or what you can do is copy files over to another HD if you have one, then just create two new partitons on the HD your installing XP on then once installed move files over
