Partition after xp install?

You should backup any irreplaceable data that you may have on the hard drive first.

There is a free utility that I have heard about only (I have not used it myself).

You may want to have a look at it in case you do not have Partition Magic.
 
Also, and I think the instructions for Partition Magic (and maybe ranish) tell you to do so, but make sure you defrag before you use repartitioning tools.
