I"m planning to split my 74gig raptor into 2. 1 for OS itself and others are for datas and school assignment. Would it be a good choice to partion it? Do I lose/gain any perforamce on it? This is my first time having a raptor drive, so I don't know much about it. By the way I use Partitionmagic to do the job. Any input/comment is welcome. Thank you.

I wouldn't use PM, it's such a liability. Partition from fdisk or qtparted (linux) or when you install XP.

I've got mine split into two partitions. One for XP, one for Vista.

Works well for me.

partition magic has always worked well for me. if you already have stuff installed, it seems like your best bet.

OK, so I always have to go a little over the top. RIGHT NOW, I have the following *INSTALLED* on my 74GB Raptor:

Solaris 10
(Botched FreeBSD 6.0 beta)
DOS, after WinME refused to install)
Win2K Server
MCE 2005
XP 64-bit
Server 2K3 64-bit
Vista 64-bit
Gentoo (stage 1 only at the moment)

I gave each OS (except DOS) its own space of 3 to 6GB. Vista is the hog in that it wanted 12GB or more just to install. I only expect to heavily use one OS (XP 64), so that is the only one that will get all of the apps. Others will probably get no more than Firefox, 7-Zip, and an occassional test app.

In other words, if you dream it, you can do it. :)

-SUO, hasn't gotten much sleep lately

PartitionMagic will be fine; everything you do with your computer is a risk, and PartitionMagic is no exception. I've never lost any data or seen it lose any data in years.

I love Partition Magic... works like a charm.
Tip: when using it, sometimes the progress will seem to free at a certain percentage for like 2 hours... just give it another hour and it will be fine :)

I partion my Raptor drive too. 25GB/49GB for OS/Programs. I did it during Windows install, so I don't use Partition Magic. One benefit I get is I can run defrag more often on either partition with much less time, especially the OS partition. So I defrag it at least twice a week, and I find that helps a lot.
