partion a flash drive to be readable/writeable in windows and osx

i have a 16gb flash drive, i have an osx laptop and and bluray player an xbox 360 that i want the flash-drive to work on with my 1080p vidoe files (i particular this ones an .mkv) what do i have to do to get this flah drive readable and writable in both pc and osx? please help

I was just looking into this a few months ago for my new Patriot 32GB USB 3.0 drive. The sad part is that you either have to format in FAT 32, which doesn't sound like an option for you, install an app that allows Mac to read NTFS, or install a program that allows windows to read HSF+. As to do the actual partitioning, tools like partedmagic and the like can do that job.

I don't think you have a choice because I doubt the Xbox or BluRay player will read anything other than FAT.

and the flash drive is on fat 32 i still cant get it to read on the bluray player or the xbox.

I don't have direct experience with either, but have you tried formatting the disk in the BD player and see what format it uses? You might have better luck trying to get them all to play over the network.

how would i do that? setup a home network? to just stream the 1080p video to my xbox 360.

Yes. Most people with multiple PCs and other media devices (e.g. Xbox, Wii, PS3, TiVo, etc) have a home network of some level already. And it seems like it would be a lot more convenient than swapping flash drives whenever you want to watch something...
