I did not know the combo discount are in-store only. I have one close to my location so that won't be an issue. I will go with your suggestion if my current parts are gone. I will also hold off on RAM.

Thanks for your help again.

Your current parts are most likely just fine. Intel chips from Northwood onward are very good at shutting down to protect themselves.

Well, the chip may or may not have been ok. I couldn't find out because the mobo is dead. I went and got the z77 pro3 and 3570k. Then I found out my OS is corrupt and can't be fixed so right now doing a reinstall.

Hopefully I'll be done with this soon.

Awesome cooler though.

That's likely from the sudden chipset change, the OS doesn't recognize the system it was installed to (that and the license was tied to the board if you have an OEM license).

Thanks for the info. I'm guessing there isn't a work-around? Not that it matters too much as I can just install to another drive and pull the data out (hopefully).

Mmm with boards of similar chipsets you can sometimes get the OS to just accept the difference, but you're making a huge shift so I doubt it, and even if it did it'd likely lock up from a system change on the same license.

I'd suggest just pulling out the data you need and backing it up, then reformatting and going with a clean OS install.

Managed to recover everything. System is running great now. I'm well below 40 when idle and around 46 or so when gaming. Thanks for all the help.
