the
WD 80GB, 8mb, retail, $69.95 after $40 MIR
looks pretty good, and i also heard that sometimes it's a 100gb drive inside instead.

dvd+r media
memorex 5pack for 14.95

edit: nevermind on that 80gb, my browser was being screwy and showed 4 pages of fry's ads instead of 3, the 4th page was a page from last weeks ad.

really? 100gb instead of 80? if you get a 100gig in that box, then it's definitely a hot deal :D

I see a 60GB WD hard drive for $64 after rebate but no 80GB in the ad.

Actually, the IBM 120GB for $99.99 -- without any rebate b.s. -- looks good to me.

I can confirm the 100GB thing....I got a 80GB SE at my local CC, and when I opened it's a 100GB drive with a note inside says "you have just received extra gigabytes of disk space at no extra cost." I am not sure what are the odds of getting this, but it's out there.....

I checked a bunch of boxes at Fry's last week looking for the 100GB in the 80GB box. You can tell by the serial number printed on the box. None had the extra 20GB.

Cigar Pro 256MB USB Hard Drive, $89.99

I'm unfamiliar with usb thumbdrives, is this a good price on one of these? And if anyone that has one, is it the SMART type that you can boot from?

Thanks Dan.

the 256mb pc2100 DDR is kingston ram, not frys generic.

It may be a warm deal for some at $25 after rebate and no shipping, however its a frys rebate :(

It carries the BTC label. (Behavior Tech Computer Corp.) They have a lot of low end peripherals. I've bundled their mice, keyboards and cd-roms with a lot of the systems I've built for others and never had a problem. I don't have any personal experience with their burners though. Here's a link to their site: BTC.

Any name brand 17" LCDs?
The ad features a 17" LCD for $349.99 after $50 MIR but the brand isn't identified.

odoe: You're right, free is good. However, I'd add a caveat about rebates from IOGear.

My experience in this regard has been consistent. After allowing sufficient time for the rebate check to arrive I call them. Within days I always receive a hand-cut check that was issued the same day of my call. ;)

Be quiet. Yours was just a link to ad. This is a discussion.

How about GameCube NFL QB Club 2002 for $4? I think the case alone costs $5 from Nintendo.com.
No good CPU/mobo combo this weekend. I really want to jump on the 120GB for $99 but its an IBM...

Doh nm someone mentioned the $4 GC game... I think I may get it for the case nonetheless hehe.

That free USB 2.0 PCI card ($10 - $10 rebate) looks nice. My neighbor has an old AT board w/o a USB adaptor.

I have the 128 MB version of the Cigar drive.

Pluses: You can encrypt the data, you can use "auto zip" mode where all the data is compressed when written to the drive
Minuses: It is REALLY slow. 400-500KB/s transfer rate. So, to fill the 256MB card it would take you about 512 seconds or about 8.5 minutes

Suggestion - If you really have a use now, get one (I did because my tape backup died and I wanted a safe place for some files until I got a new drive). If you can wait, get the USB 2.0 version. These are available now and the ones I have seen are much faster (2-3MB/s)

Good luck!

By the way - Personal opinion - You will see the USB 1.0 devices continue to get cheaper as the 2.0 ones come out.

Just make sure your neighbor has an OS on his/her system that can handle USB 2.0.
