I am very interested in distributed computing and would like to do some. Can I set up to do this and stop whenever I want to play a game or some other cpu intensive stuff? And is Seti a good choice?

Plus, even when playing games, most (if not all) DC projects have a low priority rating so it will just run in the background. Wich means, it will only use "UNUSED" cycles. They shouldn't impact performance for other programs at all.

And I hope to see you around. Welcome!

I can vouch for this. I run Seventeen or Bust and regularly play games such as QIII, Starcraft, UT2K3 on the idle priority setting. I can't see any dedregation of game performance.

Feel free to join any project you wish. As bgeh said F@H needs some help, I am running SoB since the TeAm is soo close to 1st place world wide.

Enjoy your time around here 🙂

Most decent DC clients will NOT affect PC performance whatsoever...I run SETI 24/7 even when doing processor intensive tasks...soon as something else touches the system SETI (and I assume most other clients) throttle back.

FYI, it seems the client software for the new ClientPrediction distributed computing project isn't as forgiving as others in this area...I ended up having to uninstall it in the end because it was constantly taking resources away from other processes 🙁

I know for a fact that seti@home is used as an idle thread, meaning it doesnt crunch unless you dont use cpu cycles, for example, your away from your computer, its crunching, your using your pc to play games, it doesnt cruch, because your cpu is being drawn so much by your game, seti goes "dormant"

There I have joined seti@home, will do that for now and maybe try another one later. Thanks for all your help.:music:
