Yet I love them. I can park in the same hour parking spot for about 6 hours before they bother to come around. It's nice. I check for chalk every hour or so anyhow... 😉
 
what do they write with chalk?

i'm guessing they mark cars to come back to see if they are still there?

They make a line on the tire and on the ground to see whether or not you have moved your car.

Chalk works well because it'll disappear quickly and has no signifigant environmental impact, but is visible from a distance.
 
they still use chalk in my town too. they even got some fancy tool to hold chalk so they dont have to bend over
