Parked at my apartment's 2hr parking too long and got towed

Yes, I fucked up, but c'mon, $367 for a parking violation?
Towing costs should be at $70-100 at average towing costs.

Is there any way I could get out of this for less, or am I screwed?

Yes, go steal your car back from the towing company.

do this and then show up and try to reclaim it from them afterwords

What in fvck, I've paid a small fraction of that for parking in a 'capper spot before, that's nuts. Towing is a real bitch, though.

You're probably SOL. That's pretty ridiculous though. However, I'm considering calling the tow company on the guy that keeps parking in front of my garage at my apartment. It's got my old jeep in there so I don't really need to get out that often but its my garage and I shouldn't have to worry about some idiot parking it in.

Parking ticket + towing cost + storage cost .. yeah, that can add up to $367 easily.

We used to have a lot behind our house that $175 fee plus $25 per day charge (min 1 day). It said it right there on the sign, but people kept parking in the lot and we kept calling them in. It seems like a really sweet deal for the tow company, I feel like we should have gotten a commission or something.

Fucking parking nazi's. I parked my car in a yellow spot for 5 minutes while I helped my sister carry stuff to her apartment and by the time I got down, I had a parking ticket. 44 bucks.

$367 is highway robbery (pun intended.)

I just checked with the garage I was at yesterday how much it would cost to tow my son's car. Portageville, NY to Cuba, NY (you can google maps it; roughly 30 miles) $100.

They always inflate towing costs when parking violations are involved.

It's probably that high to deter people from parking too long.

I used to work at a glass company. When we did jobs in San Fransisco we figured one parking ticket a day per vehicle into the bid. There's never any place to park near a job.

Come on down to Philly. You and the PPA could be best friends! I challenge you to find free, legitimate parking in this God-forsaken city.

There is a reality show about the PPA. "Parking Wars" or something like that.

Yeah I've heard about that. I would watch, except that I see enough of the city's asshats on a daily basis and don't need them crapping up my TV.

Ouch. I used to work Dispatch for a Towing Co and our rates for that kind of infraction was $65 + $10/day for Storage. However, it was common in those days(15-17 years ago) for larger US Cities to charge $150 + Storage. So I suppose with Time and Inflation the rate you are paying is probably in the current ballpark. You could try contacting the Tow Co Manager and negotiate something, it might work.

One of the big towing companies here in Austin only takes cash, and it must be exact change. If you don't have exact change, tough luck getting your car. The initial cost is something like $137.36, something totally random that nobody would think to bring with them.

Thank god I've never been towed here, but I certainly have taken people to pick up their cars. heh
