Paris -> Heat Problem, why have so many died?

seriously, i am not trying to make a joke of this and i feel bad for those suffering, but why have so many died? it is only 100F. i am a native of AZ and have lived here my entire life so i can't understand how people are passing at 100F, hell it doesn't get much cooler than that here at night sometimes. a couple of years ago i was going to work at 11:00PM and it was still 115. we have too many little kid drownings, but usually not many deaths due to heat.

again, this is not a rude post, just a curiosity, does their health system suck so bad they don't understand that people need certain things in high heat? -> lots of water... etc

100f is pretty high temperature. there are always people suffering heat stroke under that kind of temp. people who don't usually live in very hot weather are more likely to...

Because they arent use to the temps and have no AC. It just like say a person from Texas is use to 100, then they go over to the middle east, and die because its 130.

Azirona is dry heat.. I'm sure Paris, it's muggy too or something.. but that shouldn't be the cause..

Maybe French people had low tolerances to heat..

maybe it's the humidity?
I'm not sure how it is in Paris, but in Arizona it's a dry heat. I couldn't imagine being in 100 degree weather with high humidity

Anytime there is a heat wave in any city people die. Chicago had dozens if not hundreds die in the last heat wave a few years back.

Particularly the old, sick, and otherwise infirm...as well as the stupid who don't realize that they can get heat stroke and die.

50 is not a high number relative to the size of the city.

A/C or not, i could live in 120F without A/C, it wouldn't be comfortable but i could do it. you really think lack of A/C is doing it? seriously...

what happens when arizona gets really cold?
schools are closed electricity is down and people die of cold...

just think what happens anytime populations are not prepared for something..

Exactly. Living in the North East. Alot of people don't have AC because its not worth getting.
Sure you might need it one or two days a year, but the heat doesn't usually get all that bad.
Not to mention that most people when they want to get an AC unit is when we are having
a heat wave and then there are so few the prices go up.

Also I am not sure what the humidity was but that never helps.
But when we get heat waves people are reminded to check on the elderly. Because some have
poor circulation and don't realize how hot is actually is getting. So they sit inside their home which
is 90+ degrees and basically cook themselves.
For the most part I don't think the deaths are children dying I think its older folks.

dry heat, we always get that. 100 with 80% humidity or 120 with 10%? either way it is still hot. why don't they drink a lot and take cool showers like another person said.

it does get cold in parts of the state, here in the valley it will get down to 20 in some areas, but we don't die when we go up north and it is -5.

besides, the temps they are experiencing are not 50F higher than normal

People in third world countries live with this heat up to year round. They just aren't used to it.

Considering the bulk of people are dying are old or really young. Anyone that dies from the heat, is umm well. If you take proper procautions you wont die from the heat. Its just that its not normal for these places to be seeing the heat they are seeing, and most dont know what to do.

ROFL. We had a bunch of people I know move to AZ and I was like "Call me when you are sweating your ass off!"
And they were like "It's not bad. It's a dry heat!"

My reply: "Mark my words. 105 degrees is 105 degrees. It is HOT!"

They got there and called: "It's so damn hot here!"

My reply, in a whiney voice: "But it's a DRY heat!"

Of course they get their revenge every winter when they call from the golf course to ask how my back is holding up shovelling snow 😀
