Each year right around graduation we hire several recent grads for 1 year commitments that can be renewed. It helps them get work experience and we've been able to find some long term employees that we can train before they develop bad workplace habits.

But sometimes they don't turn out so well. One of the recent group didn't make it very long and apparently his parents think its our fault. Shortly after he was fired his manager (Who has been part of this hiring program for over a decade) got a call from his father who attempted to explain all the things the Manger had done wrong and how they better hire his son back.

Shocking no one but that family he was not hired back. So the mom called our HR department and demanded this be reviewed. (Not being new to managing or this position the manager has all the proper documentation and what not). Needless to say this will continue to turn out poorly for our former employee

I feel like I was given 2 buns, a slice of cheese, perhaps a bit of lettuce even... But someone forgot the meat!

I don't know how it works in an office but if mommy managed to get you hired back in construction you would be shamed and worked into quitting within days. Then again we don't get a whole lotta mommas boys that would beg for their job back anyway.

Why was said employee fired? And how old is he cause my mom stopped calling work for me when I turned 35- at some point you just have to put on those big boy pants!

Uggg. Probably the sort of parents that berated their teachers into giving them passing grades their whole life and now the poor kid has no idea how to succeed for real.

"For privacy reasons I cannot discuss the employment of an adult with others." Shut that shit down from the beginning of the conversation.

Yeah it would not have gone over well here either

Not sure but its hard to get fired from here especially as a new grad as we pretty much assume they don't know anything (And I mean anything - like giving 2 weeks notice of vacations, proper dress code [I had to tell someone in a customer facing position that they needed to put a shirt on because a sleeveless shirt with armpit hair hanging out wasn't appropriate], email etiquette etc). Probably wasn't showing up for work or was being a huge dick to everyone. My guess would be 22-25 years old.

Why do we need fast places to teach yoots good work habits? Because we can't manage to squeeze it in the 12 years before they graduate hs.

Those parents sound like complete tools.

Agreed with highland145 about the mom pics, though.

It's sad how society has regressed and become worse:

Same here, and I got an ass whoopin for sure as a kid when I messed up. Helped teach me to not mess up and take responsibility. They really need to bring it back, look how bad we are losing to the Asian students. It's not even close.
