Parents thinking about buying 2007 Dodge Caravan

The dealer is willing to sell it for $12,000 but I told my dad to hold off for a day or so. They need a new car and want to get a minivan as they plan on traveling with my moms brother and wife - they want a van to be able to store luggage, stretch out, etc.

I dont know squadoosh about american vehicles. Looking for opinions on whether its a good deal or not (kbb is $12,100), how relaible the Dodge Caravan is, etc.

Thanks in advance

In this market I'd act disinterested, regardless of car, and offer offer an amount that means no deal right then and there but be sure the dealer has your number. For all he knows you're shopping at other desperate places right after, so DO walk away from whatever the hell he offers, whether it's "today only" or any other such nonsense. That's the only way to know you're getting the best deal.

That doesn't sound like a bad deal on the van, btw.

My parents have a 2006 Grand Caravan. It's ok from what I've seen. I don't drive it very much at all. The stow-n-go is really neat if you have a use for it.

The Dodge isn't bad for reliability and because minivans are out of fashion I'd keep working the price

my best friends parents bought an 06 brand new and by the time they put on 20k, the power windows stopped working AND the back right brake light fell out. Seriously, fell out.

You'll never get a new one anywhere close to the price of this caravan. I looked years ago and went with an MPV. The honda/toyota/nissan were all too much.

get what you pay for. i will never buy another dodge/chrysler product. ever. my dodge ram quad cab 4x4 was the biggest pos i have ever owned. never again. it will be anyone else but them.

I actually almost just bought an 06 T&C with only 35K miles on it for $11,750. But when I took it to get a mechanic to look it over, he said it had issues with the intake manifold since there was oil and water collecting on the engine. I turned down the guy selling the minvan and went and bought an 03 Honda Odyssey with 77K miles for only $9800. Much better deal IMO and drives and looks a ton better than the T&C.

I was much happier with my Grand Caravan than the Toyota Sienna that replaced it (after an accident). The Toyota is literally falling apart-it reminds more of early Korean cars in build quality and design than a Japanese car.

But $100 below KBB is ridiculous, esp. if you are dealing with retail rather than tradein.

my parents rented a dodge caravan, and for them, it was a horrible experience apparently. the car was basically brand new with 100-200 miles and after driving 100 miles (they were driving from chicago to canada) themselves on it, the spoiler broke off. they had to duct tape it back on the car itself. and also on the way back, hertz called them and said to be wary, as the previous renters said the brakes had failed on them...😕

but otherwise, its a decent van. interior may not be up to par, but it should be fine regardless of what you get, as im sure my parents just happened to get a lemon. 🙂
