seems he has a good case for a lawsuit
OP stated in an update that he'd consult with a lawyer since the parents requested that he be fired and replaced by the school.
and this may backfire on the parents and cause the kid to resent them
I may be the a**hole here," admitted the teacher, referring to his decision to remove the child from the art class that he loved.

People are insane. Assuming it was just a normal couples picture where they weren't naked or anything. I could see a small complaint if they were making out in the photo, but I find that unprofessional regardless of the sexes of the people involved.

When my wife first got a digital picture frame, she loaded a bunch of family pictures on it. One day I was talking to her at her desk (we work for the same company) and saw a picture of myself with our daughter at a water park, where I was shirtless. I personally thought that was unprofessional and I asked her to delete that picture.

Regardless, I fully support the teacher giving the student the boot. I also think it is BS that gay teachers would be expected to never mention their spouses. My daughter's teachers mention their husbands from time to time and I remember my teachers doing the same when I was kid. Saying "My husband is a graphic designer and designed the new logo for X" isn't any different if it is said by a woman or a man.

Reminds me of a wonderful young English teacher at my high school who got busted in one of those Iwo Jima statue raids (yea, it was a thing for gays in Arlington). Was very quickly drummed out.

The appropriate response to this is to have the principal ask the parents to take their kids out of their school and find a learning institution that will accommodate their bigoted beliefs.

Of course that won’t happen but the erosion of our public schools will continue as long as we continue to cater to such people.

Straight people making out all over the place:

*aw how romantic*

Gay people just existing:

*how dare they flaunt sexuality in front of my innocent child*
To be fair, most Christiannationalists are against straight PDA as well. They are against anything that eludes to sex. They also just think mentioning a gay couple is eluding to the "worst kind" of sex.

This isn't even about PDA's. It's about people who are living in a time warp worrying that their kid will be corrupted through physical proximity to a person who is gay. Who knows what, aside from religion and bigotry, these parents believe in. Liberals eating babies? They worry over their kids being corrupted at school, but who is looking after their kids when they're at home being taught who knows what by these fools. They're wrong about who their kids need protection from.

I'm really starting to wonder if these sorts of people can't help but think about gay sex every time they think about gay people, and thus assume that it's that way for everyone.

Yes, this is what I meant. They can't not think about gay sex when they see gay people together. They also don't have any clue how to explain homosexual relationships without mentioning sex. So in their heads just revealing that you are gay to a class is teaching gay sex.

I didn't mean to imply the teacher showed any PDA, I was disagreeing with @K1052 that these same people would have no problem with hetros making out "all over the place."

Yes, that is exactly correct. In fact, words like "homosexual" and "gay" were not in wide use until these past 50 years. In old times, they referred to gays as "sodomites" or "perverts." There were no "homosexuals" in those days. Just straight people with weird perversions like having sex with people of the same sex.

I once wrote a law review article on Justice Scalia's dissent in Romer v Evans, a case reviewing the Constitutionality of Colorado's law which banned all anti-discrimination laws protecting homosexuals. Scalia's dissent was essentially this exact thing: the people discriminating are in their rights to punish behavior, he said. This has nothing to do with someone's status, he also said. No one is punishing someone for who they are, according to him, only for what they do.

It's kind of weird that people's lewd tendency to only think about gay sex when they encounter a gay person is intellectualized by people like Scalia, as if this is a normal or correct worldview.

"He mentioned that the school administration supported him, but the parents continued to send "rude" emails to his school email account, demanding that their child not be "exposed" to his "disgusting lifestyle.""

This is the point that the school should say that if the parents want the child to stay in that school they need to not contact the teacher at all and go through a third party at the school.

This is true, there would be that overlap, but also tons of shitty people that would be fine with showing a hetero couple kissing, but not a gay couple. So two groups here as you say.

Closer to 80 or 90 years than 50 for "gay" :)

Yeah this is the big problem I have with all these "parent's rights" bills going around, the parents supporting this stuff sound like they treat their kids like property and that they can only be brainwashed by them. They can't stand the idea that their kids might experience something in the world that counters what they were taught at home and their kids might not have the same hateful prejudices as them.

But half of these kids will turn out like their close minded parents and the cycle just continues.

Funny that the people who think homosexuality is contagious thought covid is/was a hoax ...
