The way that most teachers teach is a drag on kids - not the other way around.

If that's how you feel, then why do you give a damn if your kids miss 18 days? Anyway, I think you're exaggerating just to be another AT teacher troll.

Seriously, does anyone really care about this? If you're like me, you prolly don't give a crap, right? I'm quite OK with students failing. Less competition in the workforce is good.

Considering that schools teach "1" way - yes, schools should be held accountable. People learn 2 ways - reading and doing. Schools only teach towards kids that learn by reading.

When a child needs a hands on approach, the child is diagnosed with ADHD and given drugs to make him/her sit down and shutup.

So yea, as long as school cater towards 1 type of learning ability, they need to be blamed when kids fall behind or do not want to go to school.

And in your mythical world, how much does this fantastic model of having kids "do" cost? What is the student to teacher ratio? Is there unlimited funding? Since when is the school responsible for prescribing medication? People learn in different modalities, but you miss the boat with the post.

My guess is most of these kids have parents that are receiving public assistance. I personally know some people like this that are related to me. The mother uses her house for parties and as a flophouse for other people that you might call less than desirable lazy bums and drug addicts.

What really motivates school is a mix of some concern for children, and also the fact that the State does not pay matching funds every day a student does not go to school. Often this is more about the money. Instead the State should deduct one day of welfare for every day the student does not show up. So the best way is to just pay the mother less in welfare. If you just cut back on the money, maybe the mothers will get off their lazy behinds.

I have seen some parents like this somehow feel that the government owes them because they feel cheated in life. They often will not work or do not want to because often the jobs they can find, they dont show up for and are fired. It is easier to relax and sit on your ass, than get up and go to work. So maybe we pay these people too much or make it too easy on them.

Take some of these people who cant wake up and send them to a work farm, during the summer to make the school district money, and them make them go to summer school in the evening. Let them learn what hard work is.

Then there's people like me, who come from upstanding middle class backgrounds, thus invalidating your analysis.

This is exactly the reason why competition is good. Morons like you will not get jobs.
