Because of our schedule's, I don't get to spend as much time with my fiancee's son as much as I want to. So I'm not always as sure as she is when it comes to my parenting skills.

So, I put it out to ATOT parents, how long do you let your toddler sleep come naptime? An hour? Hour and a half? As long as he wants to?

I'd think as long as they want... kids need their sleep and you no doubt need as much of a break as possible, caring for a toddler is a nightmare. I'm not a parent btw.

depends on what all is going on and how strict you are about bedtime/getting up in the mornings

generally our daughters napped 1-3 hours, which was usually as long as they needed/slept. we didn't put them to bed at 7 pm (early) and get them up early (6 am) like some friends of ours (who limited nap time to a set amount, ~1 hr)

some parents like things very order/set schedule

they get their kids up at the same time every morning, nap time is from 12 noon to 1:30 pm (for example), they eat dinner at 5 pm, they put the kids to bed at 7:30 pm , etc, etc

so if they have a set time for naps, they get them up when nap time is over, even if they would sleep longer. if they let them sleep longer, then they won't be tired at bedtime

Okay, well, I don't feel so bad about letting him sleep as long as he wanted to today then. :p Bedtime is always the same when he's with me, no matter if he's tired or not, he gets tucked in.

He might stay awake a while in bed, reading or playing, but he's in bed at least.

My daughter never took naps even when she was in daycare for a year and they had "nap time".
I would limit it to an hour at most.

As long as they both want to. Whats the point in waking them when they are not fully refreshed? Besides, as someone already pointed out, it gives me a break:p

Ahh, yes, that completely makes sense.
