Parent's house just got broken into this morning

The fvcker broke the small window on the side door and came through there. The scary part was my mom was inside her room sleeping while the fvcker actually went in and grabbed her purse before running off. She didn't hear someone coming in the room but heard the door close when the thief left. So all that was taken was her purse and some change my brother had laying around his room.

And the cops are so useless. They were called more than 2 hours ago and no one has even showed up.

What sort of neighborhood do you live in? Cops only tend to respond quickly to predominantly white suburban neighborhoods. If it's an urban area, forget it.

They're out stopping the real criminals, like the teenagers smoking weed in the park.

Sorry about your parents' luck. It would give me chills to know someone broke into my house while I was sleeping.

They're paid through tax collections. Guess who pays the taxes? Only stands to reason that they respond to the people that are supporting them.

Sure, in an ideal world. Cops go after two groups of criminals:

1) Those that commit acts that they themselves observe
2) Those who commit major crimes such as rape and murder

Glad you got my sarcasm. 😀

Wow that sucks. And it sounds like US cops are useless when it comes to BNEs. Our house got robbed a few years ago and the cops actually followed up with me right away, performed an investigation such as getting finger prints etc... Unfortunately there was not enough evidence, but the cop who was prime on the case pretty much KNEW who it was, based on what we said, and that guy's past history. (Was actually one of my "friends"). A year later the cop actually showed up at my house just to follow up on if I had more information. He did everything he could, really.

This was maybe for like 400 bucks worth stolen, so not like it was super major compared to a walmart BNE or something.

I've thought of how fun it would be to setup home alone style traps for robbers.

Too bad it's illegal though. I don't get the law sometimes. A theif can break into your house, get hurt, and sue you for it. WTF?

Hey OP, I want to apologize because I've had a little fun in this thread at your expense. I've been broken into twice. It's no walk in the park. The second time we waited 2 1/2 hours for the police to show up. (BTW, we live in a semi-rural, whitebread neighborhood)

The sad truth is that they are not responding quickly because there is nothing they can really do. Little property damage, little taken. If there has been a rash of these in the area, they may get more interested. The chance of them catching who did this are probably in the neighborhood of 1000 to 1 if not higher.

One thing, if they should offer to take fingerprints, make sure you really want that done. The powder they use for fingerprinting is virtually impossible to remove. I know, because I had to throw stuff away afterwords.

I have an alarm system. Would it have helped? Who knows? It would have had to be armed while your mother was sleeping for the siren to go off. Some say signs out front and stickers on doors or windows are a deterrent. I do believe they will keep some criminals away. They'll go on to another home.

Most break-ins of this nature are drug related. They break in to get money for drugs or items they can quickly sell for money, once again, for drugs. If the cops show up ask them, they'll tell you.

Sorry to hear what happened. Been there done that.

He can't sue if he's dead.

Texas Castle Doctrine FTW!!!

Senate Bill 378 also provides immunity from civil liability for a personal injury or death resulting from the use of force or deadly force to a defendant who was justified under the law in using such force or deadly force.

I'm trying to decide if you're actually that stupid.

True, but automated man traps are still illiegal in most if not all states. You might legally be able to kill him, but just not using that method.

What exactly do you expect the cops to do once they get there other than file a report (which you might already be able to do online)? It sucks to get robbed, but place the blame where it belongs -- with the thieves.

Do your parents happen to live in Fremont by any chance. My friends landlord was smoking outside when he saw a guy laying flat down on the roof of the townhouse next door. The owners of the townhouse were on vacation and this happened in their absence. My friends landlord called the cops and they finally also came after 2 hours. When they checked the townhouse, they found a broken window and it looked like a bunch of stuff was stolen with drawers pulled open.

Where do you think they got the money for the weed? 😕

That's not necessarily true.

Even in an upscale neighborhood, if it's after the fact the police will not respond for a while.
