Not surprised they are lying about it. Why, an 11-month-old kid must have waited for MOM and Dad to turn their backs for a minute, then he just up and fetched himself some liquor, I guess!

11-month olds are smarter than you think. At 10-months old our daughter knew enough that when we said not to do something, to not do it while we were watching. Now she's at the point where she just doesn't seem to care, and does it anyways, but she's almost 2 so that's kind of normal.

Still, shouldn't be sitting around with your buddy getting plastered if you're watching your girlfriend's kid. I have a beer now and then at home, and she always tries to take it, but beer is so darned expensive up here that I'd have to be dead before she could pry that can out of my hand.

if the parents were smart enough to act dumb, maybe they could have used the old "thimble full of whiskey" excuse, saying they were trying to put the kid to sleep.

you never know, it's worth a try. better than outright lies.

That's the first thing I thought of upon seeing topic... not the excuse angle, but that it is disturbingly common practice to shut babies up with alcohol -whether to put them to sleep or "sooth" teething pains. Not everything can be regulated. As said, for all the parents that are fine with infrequently administering wee drops o' liquor, there are many more that regularly feed them large servings of sugar water which will arguably be more damaging.

parenting license

useless and illegal.

i do think all new parents should take a parenting class. but that will not stop stuff like this.

and what would be taught in the class?

The do's and don'ts. some examples:

- Do Feed your child healthy foods when they are hungry.

- Don't leave babies in cars in the summer.

i am willing to be the majority here understand that. Sad part is that a good portion of the younger new parents do not.

i have seen new parents giving infants pop! WTF

There's a major difference though... you CARED. So you took the class and learned. Parents like these do not care and wouldn't take the class. And if forced they wouldn't learn.
