Parent's car died, want to get a new one

Parents old Dodge Neon recently died...they want to get a new car.

With the auto market struggling, especially the american companies, is there a running list of HOT Deals on cars?

We are not really car people....so I would hate to just send them into a dealership. Basically they are looking for a smaller SUV or a luxury sedan, and if there are no deals on them, just a cheap commuter car.

Does anyone know of a good site that compares what different cars can be bought at including dealer incentives and what not?

Thanks for the help gear heads 😀

Like Turin said the Focus and Fusion are both good deals. If they want to get something more 'luxury' the Milan is a nicer version of the fusion.

suv to luxury to small commuter?
Narrow your scope and give us a budget to work from, and some indicator of preferences
IE Japanese or NA or don't care , how important is fuel economy? Older newer etc

As others have said, what's the budget? If you give us an idea of the upper bound for their price range we can help out, but without that it's difficult. Being able to buy a $40,000 car for only $30,000 would be an excellent value, but if they can't spend more than $15,000, then that's irrelevant and being about to buy a $17,000 car for $14,000 would be more applicable to your parents even though the "deal" isn't as good as getting $10,000 off of the $40,000 car.

Go to edmunds.com to do some research on incentives, prices paid, etc.

Go to fatwallet.com finance forums to see the low ballers in action.

Currently the Nissan Versa is the cheapest new car sold in America. Also one of the shittiest cars but that goes with the price.

lol AT isn't biased? Every suggestion was "BUY AMERICAN" too bad nobody really buys those cuz they're unreliable and not worth anything once driven a few miles.

the only reason to "buy american" is if they actually make cars that CONSISTENTLY win published (w/ grain of salt) reviews and many user (w/ grain of salt) reviews.

the best selling and best winning small suv is the Honda CR-V, it has won numerous (published) reviews and are all over the road. They also have the absolute highest resale value among any other small SUV.

What do you mean by luxury sedan like MB E class? 3,5 series (sporty + luxury)? Acura TL (sporty + luxury)?
if you're looking for around $25k the sedan that has won countless awards and has also been part of Car and Driver's "10-Best" list for 13 years (since 1986; along with cars like the BMW 3 series) is the Honda Accord. you can definitely get a good deal on an 09 model for 25k with a V6 engine (if they like) or with lots of luxury items such as heated seats, power everything, 8 way power seats, 6 disc cd, navi, etcetcetc. for $25k its is your best and safest best.

you can go ahead and get a ford, but if you haven't noticed, they've been making shitty cars. just not as shitty as GM and Chrysler. If they weren't shitty why were they on the verge of bankruptcy in 2009? i say its only safe to buy a ford after they've fixed all of their problems and have their resale value on their cars go back up (from being in the ground)

* Consumer Reports has also given positive reviews to the Fusion, as it had to the previous Taurus. The magazine said it was "unexpectedly impressed" with its handling and ride, which it said was comparable to European models. In addition, CR pointed out that in its yearly car survey, where readers reply to questions about their cars, the Fusion stood out as having high reliability levels--an exceptional result for a first-year car. In the 2009 Annual Auto Issue, the Fusion and the Milan are the top most reliable gas powered family sedans sold in the USA.
* Ford Fusion ranked highest among midsize cars in the JD Power APEAL study for 2006.
* In the February 2009 issue, Car and Driver rated the Fusion Hybrid ahead of the Toyota Camry Hybrid, the Nissan Altima Hybrid, and the Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid.

Stop trolling, start reading. I found this in 1 minute after a google search. You just chose not to actually look.

omg reliability after 1 year? how many 1990 taurus's are still on the road? i see about 1 every 6 months, and thats in NYC. i see about one 1990 accord every week, also in NYC. thats one way to view reliability.

truthfully, there is no reliability indicator for the fusion, it is too new, reliability is unknown to everyone.

as for the foguy, what kind of driving excitement are you looking for in a SUV? want some slalom speed? 1/4 mile drag races? top speed highway races on the interstate? i'm down.

hmm ford's escape? doesn't seem much of a winner when you compare it to the best bang/buck compact suv's on the market: the Rav4 and CR-V.

yes, my view is that many american cars suck, and in my book, they will until their reliability in the long-run shows through resale value. yes, it is an uphill battle, yes, its going to take a long time for them to show themselves, but with domestic cars being near the bottom of the list for resale value (IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY) shows that they're not reliable after a few short years; which is (obviously) why they're worth nothing.

Just because its the best selling doesn't mean its for everyone. I have friends with xterras and Liberties that love them because they go offroad, Escapes are cheap and also go offroad pretty well.

People like Tiguans and such because they want a more premium feel, I personally think the CRV and RAV-4 look like ass, so I wouldn't consider them, personal preference has a point to deal with this you know, rather than blindingly purchasing what everyone else does

The funny thing is the Rav4 only sells slightly more than the Escape.

Anyways, as for the OP, what's the price range? New or used?

okay looks are a part of the purchasing decision, but we cannot include that variable when recommending a car to someone else since that variable is subjective. we can only provide the facts and your OPINION.
i drove a 2007 liberty for a while too there were problems with the suspension and power windows at 25k miles. barely broken in. what a POS.

A vehicle from a company that is consistently one of the lowest rated auto companies out there. A real surprise that it's not very good....

But it's American, and the Fusion is American, therefore they both suck!

That's funny - I like these cars but the grill is the one thing I don't like. Mach 3 is fine on my razor, not on my car 😉
