I know most of you were born in caves and didn't grow up with wolves... instead you grew up alone because you're such a beast. You eat the hearts of newborns and live on the suffering of your minions, but some of us grew up with families and shit. So, spare me your 'unique' story.

Cliffs - I'm in college. Mom got inheritance from dead mother. Parents spend it on stupid shit(Escalade, useless renovation on house, et cetera). I think they should be spending some of it on me because I was the favorite grandchild. (Most promise, most potential, spent the most time with, bonded with most, et cetera) I need a nice laptop that will last me 3 years in college (Think MBP price). The only job I can get has me working less than 12 hours a week because it doesn't have a lot of business.

What do?

And, for the rest of you... Do you get any kind of parental support for college?

My mom started a scholarship program from when I was born. It was basically like a savings and then it was invested. I wanted things like a new computer and other toys, so I decided I wanted to get a summer job durring high school, and I also had to start thinking about college. So I worked 4 summers which got me enough money to buy toys I wanted and more than enough for my first year of college. I'd also got the money from the scholarship to help once I did get to college, and tons of bursaries and stuff. So I had it covered quite well.

I'd work summers while in college too but given I was in college and had a better job, and for more than 2 months, I'd make more money. I ended up giving some of the scholarship money to my parents as they needed it more than I did (renovations, that kinda stuff). Never had to get OSAP or anything like that. Though I did stay at home for college which helped a lot. Trust me, moving out would have been great and all, but it just does not make financial sense if the program I want is offered locally.

When I got out of college I worked for a bit over a year to save up money then I bought a house. Now I'm broke, but it's so worth it. :biggrin:

I need to be more disciplined though, I keep blowing cash on Canadian Tire and home Depot and other home improvement stores. I have to stop going to those crack houses. :biggrin:

With all that, I have to say I managed quite well considering I never worked while in school. School alone kept me busy enough, I don't know how people do manage to do both.

Talked to mom. She said try to keep it to $1,500 but it's OK if I need a bit more. She started at $2k then was like, "Well I should act like my son and be more of a tightass about money."

I guess I am either getting a low-end MBP or whatever I want with $1,500.

I'm going to wait until they release the next generation though.

My parents paid for all of my education that scholarships didn't cover. Probably half. Same for both siblings. Anything past four years was ours to handle.

Is your Mom's "dead mother" your Grandmother by any chance? Wtf, and you refer to her as your Mom's dead mother? That is so strange.

Maybe if you did stuff around the house without being asked and treated your parents with respect they'd want to buy you something rather than have you tell them what to spend their money on.

I can live without it... just like how I can live without a place to live, without a car, without a job, without my own computer, without a cellphone, et cetera. But damn, it sure does make things more comfortable to have that stuff.
