I only wish Moore's law was as infinite as stupidity...

I mean, you develop a (decent, from what I heard) game, you hit the launch date and then... you go into complete idiot mode and why? Because your game had early access status for less than 2 hours? I don't feel sorry for the SOB, I do however feel sorry for the other developer.

How do you run a marathon and fail to make the final step to cross the finish line? And in such manner that even inertia can't carry you across?

Dude lost his mind on D Day of all days. And to top it off, instead of spazing out of public sight, he goes to vent steam about steam. So far so good but he is twitter and yet he can still get away without shooting his foot. Tweeting I hate steam or I hate Gabe would have been a slap on the wrist at most but nooooo, this guy types out a death threat to Gabe. Nope, can't feel sorry, can't do it. We are in the final quarter of the year, he has secured himself an award.

Haha, that's really funny. Social media is dangerous and will get you into trouble before your brain can even process how stupid the thought you just had is. Steam pulling the game off the store for his actions is great, and brings some accountability to what people do on the net.

Yes at the same time a lot of what he said about Gabe is true........I'm finding this humorous and sad at the same time; figure the game will go back up onto steam in like a weeks time; or should goto GOG......

I'm finding I'm looking more at GOG for games over steam.....along with being in their beta for their multiplayer match making overlay; I'm really liking GOG far over steam......these days

The guy is an 100% certified moron and completely deserved to have his game removed from Steam for his stupidity. It's clear he has some anger management issues. Also, apparently he's never actually been able to hold a job in his life (I can see why).

Just for the record: Valve is a private company. They answer to nobody. If you give them a good reason to cut you off then they will do it with no hesitation.

Sorry, but Steam is NOT a monopoly. There are plenty of competitors. Guy is a plain idiot.

"Don't worry guys, everything is gonna be OK, we sold TWELVE copies on non-steam platforms today," Maulbeck later Tweeted.

"We were selling more than that a minute on Steam."
Stuff you say matters. He said something horrible over a relatively minor issue, and now he's acting bitter because it cost him. I don't have any sympathy for people who can't control their outbursts.

The net has made us speak before we think as there are almost no repercussions (other then harsh words from people who have done he same a few times). most of us will never learn that lesson the hard way as he has as we have nothing to lose. No, not sympathy for him, inexcusable to make death threats real or imagined.. some good old fashioned bitching would have been ok..

Wow that is a bit much, my mind is boggled right now. This story reminds me of a cheesy 80's movie uh oh scene for some reason and when i mean a uh oh scene i mean a close up in your face wide angle uh oh lol.

This is a good example of "freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences".

The dev definitely deserved what he got. He acted irrational and got burned for it. That said, it does shine some light on what will become a future problem with PC gaming. Steam has a digital marketshare of somewhere between 70-80 percent. Developers can live or die based purely on their professional relationship with a very small group of people. I'm not complaining against Steam because they deserve what they have. They worked hard for it and pioneer.

My opinion is that Newell shouldn't have reacted so quickly and allowed the developer to cool down and apologize publicly. If that wouldn't be possible, then Newell should move forward with some sort of temporary suspension. I'm not saying that Newell didn't have justification for his actions, but when you have a virtual monopoly on the PC gaming industry as a whole, that power must be wielded carefully.

Gamers hate the fact that there is so much gray space in EULAs in regards to how much power the developers wield over the gamers. I think that this highlights how those same gray areas have manifested themselves into the developers/publisher contract. Assuming there is a contract, Valve shouldn't be able to unilaterally back out unless the product itself is a problem. The developer having a big mouth should not be enough. If Newell thought the death threat was legit, his first call should have been to the FBI/Police, not Steam's IT department. From a PR side, it appeared like vengeance more than prudence and that is bad.

Doubt gabe had anything to do with his game's removal. There's a bunch of CMs that can do the job.

Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

True, but Newell didn't have to physically make the call to be the catalyst. Had the developer threatened me instead of Newell, I doubt Steam would have pulled their game. Agreed though about biting the hand. The developer was an idiot.

On the contrary, I bet if you threaten to kill anybody on the steam community boards by name (Gabe is just the most visible) they'll do the same thing.

If he was just ranting about "I'm gonna kill somebody if they don't patch the game" I doubt he'll get anything more than a warning, but he had to go and name someone specific.

Do people actually buy these crappy voxel based games? there's so many of them trying to cash in on Minecraft's success. Its really like the glut of WWII shooters a few years back. come up with an original idea already...

You're calling the game unoriginal just because it uses a graphical style that is loosely similar to Minecraft? You probably missed the part where the game is a "twitch FPS roguelike". Sounds pretty unique to me.

I've seen other FPS rogue-likes using voxel based graphics.

rogue-likes are another thing that seem to be created faster than rabbits make babies.

so either way....

I'll never understand these idiots who take to Twitter the minute they need to vent. The guy is obviously way too immature to be in business.

Ah...but without them, Darwin wouldn't have a theory. So that IS their purpose. And maybe that's all we need to understand?
