Parallel / Serial Network

Why would I want to have anything to do with a parallel or serial port based network? Its a long story, mostly buggy drivers and busted laptop power supplies.

I have a laptop with "high-speed" (not much better than 56k) net access and a desktop with only a dialup. The laptop runs Win98 and the desktop runs Linux (heavily modified RedHat). I need to give the desktop access to the internet through the laptop. The punchline? I need to do it using either parallel or serial port connections. Dont worry about the slow speed, the "high-speed" internet access wouldnt be able to keep up anyway.

Any ideas?

I would have done that a long time ago if I could have. Unfortunately, there are no linux drivers available 🙁

What I really need to know is what software I need to set up SLIP or PLIP between a windows system and a linux system.
