Parallel port question

At one point in time, I know I knew this but I'm coming up blank. 😱 What do EPP, SPP, ECP and EPP+ECP mean in regards to a parallel port? I think it has to do with what speed it works at, but am I right? If so, which one is faster? I'm asking because I have a parallel port Zip 100 and I'm trying to speed up the transfer speed on the computer I just finished building. I'd appreciate any help yall could send my way.

Start with SPP - Standard Parallel Port. That is the slowest, bi-directional, 8-bit. Then EPP -Enhanced Parallel Port - since 1992 has been a faster port under IEEE 1284 standard. The comes ECP - Enhanced Capabilities Port. Developed by Microsoft in 1992. Requires compatible hardware. Most new PCs support EPP + ECP, or any combination thereof. That is the best you canb do with a P-Port.

I would look in the Zip manual and see what it specifies. Usually anything that new would be ECP+EPP.

Last I heard, Parallel port ZIP 100 drives were very slow.
I had an internal atapi ZIP 100 and speed was very good.

I appreciate the help corky-g. 😀 I thought that was the order concerning speed, but it is nice to have someone else confirm that for me. As far as the manual goes, I'm not sure where I put it. I'll have to look for it after work. bendix, the transfer is slow, but it is what I have and I don't see going and spending the money on a new one yet, especially considering I just spent money on a new build. This drive might be one of the few pre-click of death Zip externals that is still running.
