Parallel port on montherboard gone bad, should I get a parallel - USB convertor or new printer?

Hey,

The parallel port on my motherboard has gone bad I think, so my printer won't work. I saw that I can buy a parallel port to USB convertor cord at Best Buy.com but it costs nearly $60! Thats obviously not worth it, but I don't even know if it would just work or if the printer would need special drivers since it would be connected via USB. The printer is an ooolllddd Canon BJC 4100 so I doubt such drivers exist. I think it may be easier to just get a new printer that connects via USB, but then would I need to buy a USB cable to connect the printer to the computer or does one come in the box?

Replacing the motherboard is an option since its an old socket 7 FIC 2013, but I'd prefer not to.

Thanks.

A parallel port card should be easy to find, but it's hard to say if Fry's has it. The good thing is that you will have a card that will work with this printer in any computer. I would go with that, but I would also check to see if there's something wrong with your parallel cable since I've had some go bad in the past. That might be all that is wrong(and then you would just have to replace the cable instead of buying a card AND a cable).
