here is my general setup:
amdxp 1800+
giga-byte ga7vrxp
wd 80gb eide.
windows2000 pro
hp 960cse
The issue is with parallel port. Didn't think anything was wrong until I tried to print. Nothing happened. checked printer and cable. plugged in fine. Tried on another pc. prints fine. Printer gets detected instantly so cable and printer are fine. When I plug into faulty parallel port the printer is not getting detected at all.
So now the port is the culprit or OS. checked irq. nothing wrong in device manager. port shows fine. just not communicating with whatever is plugged in. I thought maybe windows is problem so I reinstalled a new windows2000 setup on a different partition. same problem nothing prints.
tried printing in DOS with command "dir > lpt1". nothing happens.just goes to next line on cursor. When document is in que on status window it shows at first
"printing" then
"deleting printing"
then blank.
I have no idea what is wrong. I took whole motherboard out of case thinking there might be a sort or something but port still wasn't functioning. How could a port be misfunctioning yet the port is showing fine under device manager. Also printer works fine when hooked up via USB. Any links on web to test parallel port?
Anyone have suggestions?? This is too weird for me!! All I can think of is to RMA the board. Does newegg offer advanced replacement? Dont want to wait 3 weeks by sending this one then receiving.
