my friend just let me borrow his external zip 100 drive (the blue one). at first, I thought it was a parallel because it looked like one. then on the bottom of the drive, it has a diagram for setting it up: I noticed the diagram says it's a scsi connection. when I tried connecting it to my parallel port, it fits but the comp doesn't recognize it. when I went into device manager, it says my HP parallel scsi adapter (whatever that is) isn't working correctly so I removed the driver. can anyone help me? such as can I still use the zip on a parallel connection and can somebody give me some info on scsi?

if it has that S symbol, then it's a SCSI. The scsi connection looks a 25 pin parallel port. Does it have a termination jumper in back ?

If it is a DB-25 (has 25 pins, 13 on top of 12), then it is parallel. The driver just uses SCSI interface techniques and thus is described as a SCSI device in teh device manager.

yeah, it has a termination thing on the back..along with a switch for numbers 5 and 6. so does that mean I can't use the zip drive on my parallel port?

yeap, its a scsi one. There a parallel to scsi converter, but that'll run you as high as the card itself, old scsi card is like 20 bucks used..
