Paradigm Speakers - Anyone own 'em/heard 'em?

While reading a post on speakers over at FW, a few people spoke highly of Paradigm speakers. I'm looking on setting up my home theater, and upon realizing an authorized dealer is less than 5 miles away, I'll probably stop by after work. Does anyone own these speakers, and if so, what do you think of 'em? General consensus seems to be that they're great bang for your buck speakers.

Since I can't wait 3 hrs. to find out, any idea what 6 speakers (1 center, 2 front, 3 rear) migh cost me? Could I walk out of the store spending less than uh, $400 for that?

Well I'm not exactly sure what Paradigms run, but they are about the same as my B&W speakers (at least at the entry level) are.

I bought 2 fronts, 2 rears, 1 center and 1 sub (although that was Definitive Tech) for around $1200.

Basically, expect the pairs of speakers (front/rear) to be around $200-300 for the pair. The centers run around $200-$250 (they have more drivers in them). And the subs around $300.

OneCall.com can give you a good idea on what you might be getting, but they don't sell Paradigm.

Heh, ok. I'll stop by anyways to hear 'em. Cuz heck, I went to look for a $15k car, and ended up spending more like $25k, so who knows. 😛

Skoorb and I have them! 🙂 We like them. Skoorb didn't know anything about audio but everyone told him to buy those as they were in our price range...about the only thing Canadians can get cheaper than Americans. 😛

just don't walk out with bose speakers...then we'll have to beat you. 😛

check out the B&W 601 speakers, they're nice. go listen to them and have the salesperson play all sorts of stuff so you can compare.

The paradigm atom goes for 190 for the pair, and thats their cheapest 'real' speaker. there is the micro, which is below that, but it uses a paper tweeter; the ceramic tweeter on the atom is well worth the extra $20 or so.
see their Recommended Systems page... their cheapest system is $716 with a subwoofer. I believe that subwoofer goes for $280ish, so you could approach your budget. I havent heard the cinema series though, so I cant really recommend them.
If you are looking strictly for a HT setup, thats probably your best bet unless you can spend more. If you want a nice music system and can build up to a HT setup over time, check out the Mini Monitor and the Monitor 3. The tweeters on them are very nice.
Also, take a CD with you, something you are familiar with.

I've visited these forums enough to know that if I buy Bose, I won't brag about it. 😛

Even after the exchange rate, I believe most cars are cheaper in Canada as well.

I have listened to two pair of Paradigm speakers. One was $600/pr and the other was $800/pr. I was very inpressed with the sound. The only B&W speakers that I liked were the 803s but they were about $3500 for the pair.

Go for the Titans or Atoms for fronts, and Atoms or Micros for rears. Add the CC-50 center when you can afford. It is fairly cheap, and it sounds great. Throw in a sub (doesnt have to be paradigm) and youre even better.

Since theyre fairly unknown, paradigm speakers sell for dirt cheap on ebay. You could pick up a pair of titans or atoms for $125 there.

If your looking for bang for the buck I think Axiom speakers are the king.

When comparing the Monitor 3 and the Axiom m22tis, the m22s have superior mid-range and highs, but not as much bass as the Monitors. Being bookshelf speakers I knew a sub needed to be bought anyway, and the Axioms were cheaper ordering them direct so the choice was easy.

I did months of research looking for speakers and setting up my home theater and I think Axiom is the way to go for bang for the buck. Paradigms are great speakers, but with my budget putting together two systems costing the same the Axiom system won hands down.

I have m22tis in the front, vp100 center, pair of m2tis in the rear, and the jbl-pb10(had to skimp on the sub, damn apartment, oh SVS I hear you calling) all cost me about 900 buying from the factory outlet.

I'd stay away from both paradigm and axiom subs, not worth the money at all.

Oh and no I don't work for Axiom I just love my speakers.

I have a theater setup with the Reference line(l/r= studio100 C=studio/cc s=studio/adp ) and two Velodyne HGS-10 subs. I like them alot and would recommend them for a system that is 50/50 movie/music. I did have a Servo-15 and like it. But with two HGS-10 it sound better for my 2 channel music(one for left and one for right).
