Papst Fan or Panaflo?

Hi! I'm trying to build a quiet PC and I have to decide on a 120mm and 92mm fan for the back and side panel. I was going to control these fans with a Enermax rheobus, that's why I was thinking of getting the Panaflo H1A and set the speed slow and crank it up when necessary. However, I read that this is likely to cause lots of vibration, so I'm now thinking of going for quiet low CFM L1A or Papst fans. Is the cooling going to be very bad with even more reduced rpm? Also, the Papsts are more expensive than the Panaflos, so I'm wondering if anyone has tried them both to see which is better?

Cheers!

You're putting way too much thought into it 😀 Just buy any decent 92/120mm fan and 7volt them (Google!). I've got both of those (they are Antec, BTW,) and at 7 volts they are practically silent.

If you plan on using a rheobus, you'll have all the control you want over the noise issue.

I have one system that uses 1-80MM and 1-120MM each for intake/exhaust set up on a Sunbeam rheobus, and it's very quiet until all the fans are cranked up to "high". The 80MM fans are Panaflo H1A's, the 120MM are Panaflo L1A's. There have been no vibration issues, and the case is lightweight aluminum. The Panaflos are a very high quality fan!

I don't think spending the extra money for the Papst fans would be worth it....

I haven't used the 120mm Panaflo's, but I use a pair of 120mm Papst's at 5v in a Chenbro Junior. They move a reasonable amount of air and are very quiet (but not silent) at that voltage.

Where did you read that? I'm curious, because I've been thinking about getting some high speed fans and controlling the speed with a rheobus too.

How much are papst fans anyways? I've never seen them for sale anywhere.

To answer your question, I have panaflo's and they work great. I don't think you would have any problems with the medium or high speed versions either.

I don't know about silentpcreview. I have 3 pabst 12ngl's and they are the quietest fans I've ever had. I've used comporable panaflo's, and the directron house brand 80mm's. None can touch the consistently quiet pabst. Worth every penny-

Lynx, I read about it somewhere in the silentpcreview forum (can't give a page I'm afraid). I just hope that the person had an atypical fan, or he didn't screw in the fan properly. You can do a search for Papst fans on yahoo shopping, and they're like US$15 or so for a 80mm; I remember that Directron.com has some.

Thanks for your help, I think I will try the H1A first and if that proves too noisy, then I'll sell them off on ebay and get the Papst.

My opinion, papst vs panaflo is more a geographic issue. Both perform really well. Panaflo's can be had for $5 each in the US and papst tend to cost over $10 each here in the US. I hear that papst is much cheaper in europe though.
