repost

At first I hated that song, then I liked it for awhile, then I hated it again. Just poorly written lyrics. A much better song with similar kinda Political message and released sametimish is Flobots-No Handlebars

That song freakin blows... isn't it about drug dealing or something? She just wants our money, says so right in the song! There is no talent. No skill. No motivation other than pure unadulterated monetary gain - and lets teach children that is what is important while we're at it.

I thought the song was about illegal immigrants.. and how they suck...

BTW.. the Clash's song is a good song - but after listening to it - I don't think there's any way in hell you can say MIA's version is a ripoff of it..

Also, the Clash is good at coming up with decent music - but I really feel like they sucked at recording it. For example.. 311's version of White Man in Hammersmith Palais is 10x better than the original ever was.. Sorry.. but imo it is. (I will admit the technology to record the music has improved a ton too.. but still.. no excuse.. look at the Eagles in the 1970's.. They recorded perfectly..)

Yeah, the song isn't just about thugs stealing from people - it's about immigrants and hw hard their life is - the gunshots/cash sound/"take yo money!" hit is satirical.

Actually, it's about the metaphysical reincarnation of ones self born into a world where innocence is lost and moral depravity seeks to corrupt future generations.

Song has a good message, but I really don't like it. Beat is boring and her voice just doesn't do it for me. But as far as Urban music I'll take this over that stupid Stanky Leg shit any day of the week. The first few times I heard this I was so annoyed by it I didn't take time to listen to what it was about, and just thought it was another dumb pop song. It's good the lyrics have meaning, I'd just prefer different music behind it.

Don't forget the allegory to the rise and fall of Gilgamesh and the Sumerian empire, and Gilgamesh's long-rumored boy lover and their drug use. Because that's also a very big part of what the music is trying to convey.

The first time I heard it, my fiance brought it up on Youtube and said "I really like this song"

Once I heard it, I thought she was being sarcastic and I started to laugh and since the damn thing was so annoying. The chick was basically moaning over the lamest beat I've ever heard. When she said she was serious and she really liked the song, I felt kinda bad :D
