I don't know why, but Papa John's makes the best pizza evar!

WTH!!?? When they first came to my state, I heard a couple co-workers talking about how great they are... So I ordered a large pep. Worst pizza EVAR! I mean EVAR... worse than any frozen pizza, too.
I figured I must have gotten a bad one on an off night or something... so I tried one again -- different day, different store... Same cr@p!!

I don't understand what is wrong with you people. This is the worst pizza ever!

I wouldn't take one even if they were handing them out for free.

edit: no personal attack here... I'm just amazed they are still in business.

Who the hell orders just pepperoni pizza toppings only? That one topping pizza by itself taste like crap anyways. Either you have bad taste or you're just one topping pizza lover. Papa John's has one of the best pizza and I think they are the only ones that give you garlic sauce to put on your pizza.

I don't tip much at all, and I feal bad for the drivers, but paying $15 or close to it for a pizza is pretty rediculous. The pizza restaurants should lower the cost of their pizzas and pay their drivers more, but they shouldn't charge $11 bucks for a freaking pizza and then expect people to dish out another $4-5 in tips. For that price you might as well make 3 of your own f'ing gourmet pizzas, or go out to eat at a pretty decent place. And don't say you're paying for the convenience. There's no way a delivered pizza costs Papa John's anywhere near $12 or whatever; it's a market-driven system, and since people are willing to pay that much for a pizza, that's how much PJ charges. OK, but then pay your workers more, don't feed your own corporate greed by making the customers responsible for ensuring that the delivery boys can pay their rent.

You have obviously never tried bad frozen pizza.

I used to eat Papa John's all the time until they raised their prices to the same level as other Pizza franchises. Now I just eat Donatos. Same price, better pizza. I liked the garlic sauce, though, they had to do something when the crust was that large leaving less room for cheese and toppings.

HAHAHA, pizza drivers making $50,000/year? I've never heard of any pizza driver making even remotely close to 50K/year delivering pizza. What planet is this?

Papa Johns has to have the worst sauce I've ever tasted...and I used to manage a Little Caesars!

I could deal with it if when I asked for light sauce, they actually gave me light sauce. But when I specifically ask for light sauce, they still pile it on an inch thick. Horrible.

Alot of times I tip just the change rounded up. $10.50 pizza? They get $11 and a door in their face.

When I'm in a good mood, known as I have a girl over and we're getting pizza for movie night.. the guy gets $2 tip.

Otherwise when I'm alone, slim to nothing for the tip. Maybe a buck if I'm feeling generous.

Heck, those guys make like $50,000 a year, and half the pizza places charge you for delivery so anytime that happens the tip instantly disappears for sure.

You need to watch the movie "Waiting"

Oh, and enjoy the special sauce... lol

Nah I used to work at a Pizza Hut, they are far to busy to remember some dudes name who only tipped their DELIVERY DRIVER $.50. They really dont care and you never get the same loser twice to deliver it. 😉

Hell, I get 8.35/hour for my work-study job as a computer lab monitor... $12/hr is pretty decent.

can i nominate you for Anandtech pariah of the year?

if you don't think they remember you/know who you are, believe me, they do. i know the papa johns around here actually knows your address from when you call in, because i've called and told them nothing and they've correctly said "to this address right?" and named it off. i'm assuming their caller id ties into their customer database. if you don't think that a driver may rant about you and that word wouldn't get around, you're unaware of the dark side of the food industry.

i wouldn't tip $4-5 to be honest, as that would be a 40-50% tip, but i have no qualms throwing down $2-3 on a $10 pizza, and NOT only in the event that i'm trying to get a piece of @$$

i guess everyone has their own way of schmoozing up on chicks. some choose fairly tipping a pizza delivery guy.

Personal experience with Papa John (YMMV)

1. pizza is expensive
2. charge for delivery
3. Taste like crap
4. Delivery is slow

Add the equation together and Papa John =

wow, so its ok to be a jerk to mr. nobody as long as he doesnt remember you. amazing :disgust:

as for papa johns tasting like crap, I would like to hear other alternatives. Unfortunately, we dont have too many choices here, and Papa Johns is a clearly better choice than dominos 🙁

No really.. I dont think some of you commenting on the dangers of not tipping a pizza boy have ever worked in a pizza joint.

They are usually insanely busy on weekends, dont have time to check if Jim Beams pizza is up or not. They get the ticket and make the pizza.

If they are slow that day, usually its hard to geta way with spitting in a pizza or getting really crazy with "special sauce".. lol. Not everyone at the place is going to be cool with spitting in pizzas.. and at most places if the manager even hears about it you are fired immediately.

And to top it all off, it cant get too much more gross than the health conditions at those places already are.

To save time at the pizza hut I worked at, because we were so incredibly slammed with business, we didnt even clean half the silverware.
As long as it looks clean. No, they dont run it all thru those machines that get to the certain sanitary temp ect.. many times they just put the clean looking stuff back on the cart to take back out.

I worked at Pizza Hut for a year in high school.. messing with peoples food is so rare. Unless you've worked at a pizza place, you really dont know.

No one else that works at those places gives a damn if some jackass delivery driver gets his tip or not.
Everyone knows the bastard is pulling $10+ an hour and woudl rather see him make less.

The only hazard is as the pizza is on its way to you, if its even the same driver. And then.. how much can be done, taking the pizza topping off and slipping some strick9 or pissing in a pizza?

yeah.. you are going to tell if anything serious is in there.. including human piss or ******.
Its just unrealistic and the chances are just as great as someone doing something to your pizza randomly, because hes a punk anyway.

So to sum it up for everyone.. dont worry about not tipping your delivery driver. And esp dont if they include the tip on the bill for delivery, thats just BS.

Get a job at a pizza joint in a big city, and tell me how easy it is to not only catch the evil man who didnt tip you before, and to actually remember, then get away with doing something to it without getting caught.

Quit trying to scare people into tipping them. Theres alot of other MUCH harder working professions that get paid the same or less.. and no one tips them.
Dont see why pizza boys deserve it.

If anyone deserves a tip its the construction worker who built your apartment complex so it doesnt fall down, not the jackass delivering your $4.99 pizza.

Any money that a pizza delivery boy makes goes right back out as gas and hiked up insurance bills (and you're significantly decreasing the life of your car with all of that work).

They don't make hardly anything.

Edit: Of course, when I say "they don't make hardly anything," they actually do okay for not requiring a college degree. The work is hard and hazardous, and the pay is only so-so.

Yeah Crusader they will never remember you. Gas at almost $3 a gallon and an asswhipe likes to "tip" them 50 cents or so. Just so you know I deliver pizza part time and I definitely remember jerk offs like you. Do I add something special to your pizza? nope, I don't mess with peoples food but have seen it done. I will make sure you get your pizza last. Tips first stiffs last. If I take 3 deliverys yours will be delivered last and I don't care if you live 2 blocks from the store.

It doesn't pay to be a d!ckhead. Don't want to tip a couple of bucks? Pick it up then. What problem do you have with delivery guys? You sure like calling them losers. Did a pizza guy bang your wife or something? really, quit being such a prick.

Nobody is trying to scare anyone into tipping. The moral of the story here is "If you don't want to tip for the convenience of food being brought to you, get off your fat a$$ and pick up the pizza yourself"

So true. I delivered for Pizza Hut when I needed a 2nd job to pay off debt. I can think of 3 weekly regulars that I knew never tipped (and one that asked for exact change) - BTW, rounding up to the next dollar is not a tip. I made sure theirs was always right at the end of the delivery window and it only was in the warming bag when I brought it to the door.

Keep it up, if the driver is smart, you'll always get cold pizza at the very end of the 45 minute window.

I did pizza del for a couple years. Drivers talk. We know the stiffs 50% of the time before we deliver it. I used to open the box on occasion and just let it air out before I arrived at the customer's house. It was easy and tempting to hawk a loogie into the food, but I never did. I squeezed pepperoncini juice ALL over the pizza a few times though. Pay sucks. Gas price sucks. Tips save our asses and allow us to pay rent. When we deliver a pizza and are given the change on top of the dollar, it pisses us off. By stiffing you make the "loser" have a tough time out on the road. If you don't tip, one day down the road karma will have it that a pissed off driver who has been stiffed once too often that night isn't paying attention and runs over you and your 2 children leaving them mentally retarded for the rest of their life so you get to clean their sh!t from their underwear/diapers for the rest of their lives.

Yep, I agree. That's why I live 1.5 blocks away from PJs. I always pick up. It's always hot, ready in 10 mins, and no delivery fees... Gets no better.
