They will probably call the online Multiplayer version an "Expansion Pack", just so they can charge extra for it.

the real question here is whether to get the Pinky Demon from EB games or the Baron of Hell form Gamestop

Id focusing on multiplayer play is pretty pointless now anyway, as Epic has steadily outdone them since the release of the original Unreal Tournament, and Half-Life's mods are better multi-player than all the Quake games put together (excluding counter-strike of course....what suck.) Like I said - Id needs to stop making games and just focus on putting out great engines for other developers (*cough*Raven*cough*) to make good games on.

Yes, I do have some hope for Quake 4. If you read this post, you know why.

Yes. For the Mac even b4 the PC. ;)

And the DIII engine has been tweaked and optimized even further.

The "target" for mid-level performance is the DX8 Radeon 8500/GF3 . . . from looking at the latest games: Far Cry, Thief III/DeuSexII/Painkiller - you will probably get 800x600 and low detail or 1024x768 if you are lucky.

The 9700pro should be able to get at least medium detail, some eyecandy and more playable FPS. I am looking forward to hi detail with my 9800xt . . . the x800 and 6800 owners should have EVERYthing and at high res. ;)

Just my guess which has been evolving over the past 2-3 years.

it'll be soon enough.

I know I'm safe... P4 1.5 GHz, 384 SD Ram and a GeForce2 MX200...

But I'm upgrading just in case that isn't going to be good enough, planning on this for final specs (but nothing is final):
2.8C P4, Gigabyte GA-8IK1100, 2 x 512 DDR 400 Ram and X800XT PE. Also upgrading Sound Card and speakers to 5.1, should have it all done by the time Doom 3 arrives at my doorstep if all goes well (assuming of course this Augest 3rd date is the correct date).

You're so ignorant about FPS gaming scene. Where did you get the idea that UT and HL are better than Quake 3? Just look at all the national and international tournaments with prize money, such as WCG (world cyver games in korea), ESWC (electronic sports world cup) in France, etc. Quake 3 has been the dominant choice of game for competition. From 1999-2003, Q3 was simply far more popular among hardcore gamers than UT and HL.
