doom 3 is apparently playable on low with geforce2 cards, so id say ur 9700p would serve u well....

still, who knows what u'd need to get the "full visual experience"

It all depends on resolution and eye-candy I guess, but it sounds like it will run on most of the hardware built in the last 2 years or so. However, trying to run any game with the "minimum" hardware spec listed on the game box is allway's a joke.

I'm pretty sure anyone with a solid system and a 9700 pro or better will be able to enjoy at least a little eye candy for that game. We'll just have to see when it comes out.

I like how that site says:
Official launch date of August 3rd, 2004 confirmed!
but neither doom3.com or activision.com has any mention of a release date. That makes sense in the marketing world, keep one of the biggest product launches you are going to have under wraps. I will believe it when I see it.

wasnt the 9700pro the card that was responsible for gettin the Doom 3 engine running with HQ and really smoothly too? ....i remember reading somewhere bout when D3 was showcased at an E3 and carmack said ati have done great job with the 9700pro......its the first time we've had the game running at a decent res with decent level of IQ and decent frames.........that said wasnt D3 technology originaly shown on the GF3 to promote the GF3's programmability......except not a lot of people knew that they wer lookin the beginins of D£ in the face?

don't bother...25-35fps at medium quality 1024x786...you're gonna have to upgrade

(numbers taken from my system running the beta)

I ran that leaked beta/alpha from last year's E3 on my FX5900 and it ran like crap as well. I don't imagine that you can really base the final game on that leaked version. Especially, considering I had to downgrade the drivers just to get the game to play at all. Of course, a better card won't hurt.

Yes. I am sick of everyone basing their opinion of Doom3 off of the alpha. I think that Geforce3 cars and up will be fine. Everything else just makes the experience better.

I really couldn't care less. Id's games are all the same since Doom (excepting Quake 3, but it was still boring). Just new engines to display the same stupid zombies, demons, and lone space marine.

Get some new material or stop making games Id. Your engines are great, but your creativity isn't worth a turd.

You're an idiot. Id's games since Quake (Q2, Q3) are about multiplayer, not single-player, experience. No one was playing with the zombies, bots, etc. Everyone is playing online or on LAN with real ppl. The story line, character design are totally irrelevant here.

actually wrong Doom 3 is all about single player, it has multiplayer but nothing more than just deathmatch. Quake 4 will be released late this year or early next year using the doom 3 engine which will offer good online game play

I've heard multiplayer in Doom3 is great. Where did you see that info about Q4 release date? Link?

I'm speculating. quake 4 is already in the pipeline and when doom 3 is done all they need to do is finish it up. my guess is thier lifting the gameplay from doom 3. then adding quake style graphics and game modes. shouldn't be a whole lot of work.
