Panasonic Rice Cooker 49.99

Good deal Jokersmoker. I have a National brand rice maker and I love it. National is the name that Panasonic is marketed under in Japan. It is 6 years old and aside from replacing the non-stick bowl once it still works great. I personally prefer the ones like these that have one touch use to the fancy ones with all the options and timers. This unit just requires you to add the rice (after you wash it of course) and add the water and press the start button and wait for it to pop. Plain and simple (and about half the cost that this would retail for in Japan).

I used to have a rice cooker... It's great at first, but then you realize that minute rice is so much quicker, and doesn't taste too bad.

BLAH! Blasphemy...

For those of us who eat rice every day, we can definitely tell the difference between minute rice and quality rice. We can tell the difference between two different brands of high-quality rice even.

Anyway, Panasonic/National is a great brand of rice cooker. IMHO, Tiger is great as well, and Zojirushi are the best.

<< Never buy a Tiger >>

I have a Tiger and I've never had any problems with it.

The thing I don't get about this Panasonic is in the description it says it will keep rice warm for up to 5 hours. Sounds like either it doesn't have the keep warm feature or that it does but automatically shuts off after 5 hours.

Minute Rice Sucks!

hmm...what would be like a retail price on a rice cooker like this??

Anyone know?

I am usually not shopping for rice cookers on a daily basis

Oh, your one of the lucky few...
Actually my family had three tigers (3 cups, 5 cups) and of the three, two either broke or cooked sub-standard rice (ie. soggy, icky, something resembling rice porridge instead of cooked rice) after a few months. Never bought another Tiger again. Our Zojirushi neruo fuzzy (3 cup) also conked out within a few months, brought it in to a service center (lucky they had one close) replaced the rubber ring and metal circle top or lid thing and it worked fine, but the water would alway drip down the lid making one nasty bit of rice in the middle. Now thought it was the 3-cup size but the same happened to a 5 cup one too. Gave up on the fancy cookers and now back to the old style Zojirushi cookers and a National cooker (the simple pop when done ones). Both perfectly fine.
*sigh* If we only could live without rice for a few days

Mysterie, maybe I did get lucky. It's a 10 cup rice cooker and I've had it for at least 8 years and it makes perfect rice.

Thanks JokerSmoker,

This will replace my 17 year old, trusty Hitachi Chime-O-Matic. The aluminum inner shell is about worn out from 2 to 3 X per week use.

hehe the simple national/panasonic pop when done one we have has been around over 15 years with us...actually I think over 18 years!

hella reliable, although the cover has this glass thing in the middle that fell out, but it didn't break so we just pop it in and it stays there. Sure we could probably glue it back in or something but it's a rice cooker...no need to poison yourself lol. If you pop it in backwards it works fine too and is less likely to pop out... Too bad the machine is really quite fugly...it's bright orange!
