This is Panasonic's entry level Digital Video Camcorder. It lacks a couple of features; memory slot, color viewfinder, and external mic input BUT it has a 680K CCD which is huge. IMHO resolution is the most important feature on a DV camcorder (next to price). Most reviews are very positive. I don't think there is a better deal out there on an entry level 680K DV camcorder. Best price at pricegrabber.com is $390 shipped.

Use the the Dell $50 off $400, 10% off, and 2% ebates. Overnight shipping is free. I ordered late yesterday and it is scheduled to be delivered today. Make sure you do this through Home & Home Office peripherals. You will be charged tax if you go through small business. Use your rewards CC to make it even better. There is a $10 off $100 coupon out there but it cancels out the $50 coupon.

PV-DV51 at Dell

Now to find the cheapest place to buy DV tapes. Any suggestions?

FIXED LINK (and simplified too)

nice find! That is a HOT price for a DV camcorder. I bought the Sony TRV-11 DV camcorder a year ago at Sears, who was selling it for $1200, but I pricematched and got it from them for ~$950 after tax...which I thought was a hot deal at the time. But this is a HOT deal!

bpb30, I wish I knew where to get DV tapes cheaply too. I usually just get'em at Sears or somewhere (not cheap).

NOTE: this appears to be a discontinued model by Panasonic (I think it's last years model)...but I still think it's hot for the price...here's the product page for it at Amazon.com (with a couple user reviews)

I think Sam's Club sells a 3-pack of DV tapes for around $17. Since I don't own a digital videocam, I have no idea if this is a good price. Hope this helps.

Bought the PV-DV51 from Dell last year for $274.00 after all discounts and rebate. Picture quality is great. Love the camera. Only thing I miss that most of the more expensive models have is input jacks to record from other sources.

The place I use for tapes is www.taperesource.com. By far the best prices I've found. I just got some Sony premium 60minute tapes for 5.79 each. The only 'catch' is you have to order in groups of 5. They also have the EX's, DVCAM's, SVHS, BETA, etc, etc, etc. If its video tape, they have it and for a great price. Very fast service too. Ordered last night, got tracking info e-mailed to me this am.

I never had a camcorder before, so I guess I can't go with $350 for a Mini DV digital camcorder.

thanks for the deal!!!
