Panasonic, Phillips or Toshiba DVD Player

Relying on the collective wisdom of everyone here to decide redemption of points from AMEX Rewards.

I can choose between three DVD players from these manufacturers only - Toshiba, Panasonic, Phillips -- all progressive scan.

There is no specific model information just general information blurbs available and I don't wish to call AMEX and try to get more info...so based on mfgr only which would you choose?

Thanks so much everyone,
~AJ

WTF? Why can't you just call AMEX and get some model numbers?

I prefer to just risk it all and go by reputation of manufacturer...it's better than wading through the automated menus and trying to get information they probably don't have, know, not available, or care about.

It's worth a poll here (since I enjoy browsing the forums) and I know there are a TON of very, very knowledgable members, whom I'd trust more than the AMEX Rep technical knowledge-wise.

Plus, this is my first poll and wanted to see how it's done 🙂

I did call...and they're "experiencing unusually high call volumes"...it's more that I don't want to spend an hour on the phone when I could come here and get some opinions of our members.

I'm not asking anyone to research the hell out of DVD players, just provide an opinion based on experience, etc. A few clicks, done...if you don't care or don't want to give me your opinion, don't.

Maybe I should've made this YAGT 😉 - She needs a new DVD player OMFG I don't know what to get her...something more readily relatable to the current crop of posters around here.

Granted, but it's difficult to recommend a DVD player based solely on brand alone. I would choose Panasonic or Toshiba over Phillips, but between those two I can't make a recommendation without some model numbers.

Thanks, MrChad - I do appreciate it.

Your answer is just what I'm looking for...manufacturer preference only. I was even going to update everyone on how it worked out.

Thanks again,
~AJ

Edit: Typo

Philips - because you might get the DVP-642, which plays DivX, XviD, SVCD, VCD, etc without any problems. It's worth the risk. Note: it costs around $70 retail, so it's likely this'll be the one they give out due to its low price.

Hands down best choice. I got it and it does all it advertises.

If you want quality - Toshiba.
If you want maximum format compatibility - Phillips, since they own the royalty rights on VCD/SVCD.
