Panasonic Panaflo fans and SLK-800

I'm checking on newegg and directron as well as zipzoomfly for replacement fans, and I like these Panaflo ones, but would they be great? I like the Hydro-Wave bearings on the only 80mm Panaflo (more like the only panaflo model) on newegg, and I hear it is a perfect match for the SLK-800 (someone even says so in the review). Is this correct? I intend on getting a mobile Athlon XP 2600+ and, yes, overclocking it, but I don't want horrendous noise. What do you think?

I'm willing to get a new HSF combo, but I love this SLK-800 and I would prefer to keep it😉

Thanks for any help or personal experiences, because i'm stuck here.
 
Yep 80mm Panaflo is a perfect match with the SLK-800.
On my 800U I am using a Panaflo U1A 46.9 CFM. These may be a little harder to find.
I usually run it @ 7v (Nexus controller) and it keeps my 100% load temp @ 46-47C on a 2500+ @ 3200+ 1.775vcore.

If you can't find a U1A, an H1A or H1B (rpm sensing) would do nicely.

Really for 80mm fans it is hard to beat a Panaflo without dumping a wad of cash or sacrificing noise.

Well, an SLK-800 is designed to accept an 80mm fan. Although I am sure you could probably mod it for a bigger one though....

Other than that I don't have much exp with 120mm Panaflo's as I have only used one. I have a 120x38 L1A that is a very good fan, but the 38mm width can cause compatibility probs since a lot of cases are designed to accept 120x25 fans. I have one 92mm Panaflo H1A that I think is just horribly loud! Not sure if I got a bad one or if they all are.

If you believe the guys at SPCR, not so great. They click quite a bit when undervolted.

Globe Motors makes 120mm fans that seem to have the best CFM/noise balance and are cheap also (not to be confused with another company called Globe Fans which makes crap).

Thanks for your input. So, I should find a U1A first, and if I can't find that.....then H1A or H1B, correct? I will indeed be limiting whichever one I choose, but haven't decided on a fan speed limiter, possibly one from Zalman.

Also, I prefer to keep it 80mm or 92mm (if needs be, I have NO problem with that) even if the SLk-800 can do 120mm (which it can't, and I don't want to mod for that).
 
Sorry for asking about the larger fans if I caused any confusion. I was asking for input because my case uses 120mm holes, so.

Well, that is entirely up to you.
I bought several U1A's and use them on CPU's since they output 46.9 CFM.
The H's put out about 39 (I think) You are gonna be fine either way. Both have good CFM/noise ratio.

I took SPCR's advise and bought 2-Globe 120's for my son's case, but won't install them until after Christmas.
 
Mrvile, don't be sorry 🙂. I wasn't confused at all, and talking about a larger fan is still close to the topic 🙂.

If i'm going to be using a 2600+ mobile in an SLK3700AMB (with both 120mm fans in use, of course), do you guys think I should go for the medium-range 80mm one (Panaflo FBA08A12M) on newegg? It says its rpm rate is 2450 rpm, 32.1 CFM of airflow and a dBA reading of 28. I wish I knew what this crappy Thermaltake Smart Case Fan II on my SLK-800 gets at 3200rpm 😛. My average room temperature is 68-70 degrees, unless it is December (i'm in Minnesota), in which that would be around 65 degrees fahrenheit in the basement.

Someone told me they think it would be just fine (given the cool-running Mobile Athlon XP and the heatsink it would go on, the case and the room), but I think maybe I should go for the U1A or H1A/B and just simply limit the rpm rate, so that I can get a faster rpm rate if I ever needed it for unforeseen heat problems. I don't think SPCR said anything about clicking with panaflo fans at 7v or whatever you limit them to....am I right?

Edit: I didn't realize the H1A has a dB reading of 32.0, which is acceptable! Nevermind
 
I originally had a Smart Fan II on my SLK also.
Any of the Panaflo's will seem silent in comparison.

Jabtech carries the H1B for 6.99.

Yeah, I noticed that. Should I get a Zalman Fan Mate, or do you suppose the noise level will be okay. Its only 32 dB, after all...

Though, this motherboard can control the fan by temperature.

I would defiantly control the fan with the board, you'll be able to dynamically change the speed of the fan based on the CPU temp.
 
I like the panaflo very much, but I would go with Smart case fan II. With SFII you will be able to controle the air pressure from 20CFM to 76CFM.

If you can change the speed of the from with your MB whats the point of manual fan control?

The fan will be replacing a Smart Fan II. Just like Operandi said, we've also pointed out that the motherboard can control the fan by the temperature of the cpu (though I have yet to use it). Also, I have first hand knowledge that the SFII fan is a REALLY terrible product. We had one running in another PC using the thermal control and it worked good for about 6 or 7 months and then we noticed that the fan was running around 1200rpm, and we realized something with that thermal part just simply stopped working (and it was only 6months, and the PC wasn't on every day either).
