oh, thanks for the explanation Ecartman, trixy trixy. :)

You got the cd player freaby? I saw it as backorder, so I just said screw it and didn't add it, thought it might delay my order as a whole.

Got mine yesterday from VikingOp. Played with it for a couple of hours then upped the firmware to ver 2. Went smooth, eveything works like a champ. Thanks PicPop! BTW the new firmware does increase the file size of the stored pics by about 15% while slightly increasing the quality of them.

Got my FZ1 and the packing was horrible. Does anyone else notice a rattle in the lens system when the camera is powered off?

That's normal.... says so in the manual.

The rattle is because the anti shake magnetic stabilization system is not powered to suspend the lense in a magnetic field so it's literally loose when you shut the power to your camera.

Stop worry and enjoy. My packing from Viking sucked too but the Panasonic box keeps things good.

Check these pics out:

1x - F8.0 | 1/100 | ISO50
12x - F8.0 | 1/80 | ISO50

No external support save me holding the camera. Now either I have some uber steady hands or the optical stablizer really does a good job!

I could not get it to work also. So I just called them directly, ordered it and had them add the coupon discount. No problemo. BTW, they shipped it to me via a contract courier company called Meyer Brothers!?&^*. It shipped out of Connecticut to my house in eastern Mass. Never heard of them...but the delivery went well with no problems except signature required.

For those of you that did not get in on the outpost deal this month Viking Office products still has the FZ1s for $300 - 20% plus free ship = $240 shipped. Coupon is good until 7/5. Still a great deal IMO considering many websites have this camera for well over $300. Just use the link in the first post to find the coupon. You might have to call Viking to get the coupon as I did but that's no big deal.

Yes, they jacked the price from $280 to $300 which is still the cheapest price on the net. Ritz camera has it for $300 also but you do not get the $60 off with coupon.

The 12x zoom sure came in handy last weekend at Clifty Falls State park, IN. They closed off a section of a walkway that came right up to the falls because of falling rocks. That didn't stop me from getting up close to snap a few pics of the lovely water falls thanks to my trusty 12x stabilized Leica lens.

the 20% off coupon and the free cd player coupons are expiring. Looks like you can get a free computer bag now. (choose Order by Catalog # on the top and search for: Q07-TRAVL0055)

Niiice. I love my Panasonic LC33, and would like one of these too. Maybe they will update them in the next couple of years.

They're still selling these cameras for 199 at Fry's out the door. Silver only.

Really regret missing out on this when it was offered through Outpost for the $199. While I was trying to make up my mind, it went OOS and missed it by a matter of minutes. There are no Fry's in the Orlando area.

There are certainly better UZ's but nothing else comes close to approaching the value at this price.

Fry's in PHX........ OOS!
This model is discontinued.
The only time it was offered for that price was the floor model which is now gone!

Oy. 1st thing, Fry's is all out of these cameras. All locations are apparently sold out from what the guy in san marcos told me.

2nd thing, if you want to buy this on the internet, do NOT buy from NY-based online stores such as A&M Photo unless you think $40 is worth all kinds of scams and headaches. I actually placed an order with them and then got suspicious and looked them up in BBB and resellerratings. The stuff these guys are trying to pull is downright ILLEGAL. Called back to cancel the order and then called my credit card company to let them know what's going on in case these guys try to bill me anyway. Oh yeah, and they will ream you on shipping too. $25-35 generally for a small camera.
