Did you get silver or black lens tube and shade with your silver camera?
we both got a silver FZ1 with a black lens tube and shade
Must be to prevent flash exposure error.

Probably, -- I've heard that all the FZ1s come with the black lens hood. Also heard mention that the silver FZ2s did come with a silver shade (and had problems with the flash exposure) :)

(dang, I want the black body. Think I'm gonna hold off for a week and see if any turn up...)

Just thought to pass it along. Vanns was selling the black one for 249 w/free shipping. (I missed it. Crying. Stomping) I was hoping that Vanns will have the camera back in stock.

Now Vanns changed the status from 'out of stock' to 'no longer available'. I think the same happened to the silver one first. Yes. I believe they sold out the silver first.

Also, Viking OP now shows the camera as 'on clearance'.

Bought this camera about 2 months ago at Fry's when they had it for 199. Glad I did. It seems to take better quality pictures than my Canon A70 which I have replaced with this one. The FZ2 firmware upgrade is easy as pie. I've done it for 4 people without a hitch.

Spare batteries you can pickup at eBay if I recall for under 15 bucks. Just make sure you look around so you get one that at least has equal mAh rating. Beware as there are sellers selling 500mAh units.

I've made an external battery unit for the camera as well... If ya wanna see it:

The mod itself cost around 2 bucks to make.

Silver FZ1

PM Staples

Same price in AZ B&M store. However, one store only had floor demo available and the other shows OOS.

Nice find! I ordered the black model for $245 + shipping from onecall.com this morning.
(I had to have the black one) :) -But that was only $25 more than the silver at viking office...
Now the silver at outpost being $50 cheaper than the black makes this deal muy caluroso! (very hot!)

For anyone who got this awesome camera, and is nervous about flashing it....

here is the MD5 checksum: 743296e3c53ded6ffdc5353cf85f65e8

That's what mine is, plus I didn't flash mine until I found another person who flashed theirs who posted the same checksum.

I just now tried to order from outpost and the site states "product currently unavailable". I bet they will not get any more in stock as this is a closeout model. I bought it from Viking Office Products instead and paid the extra $23 ($279-20%=$223.20). I think these cameras are going like hot cakes as many sites have increased their price over the last couple of days.

I love my new FZ1 v2. I'm thinking of getting a Tele lense. Canon TL-55 which apparently threads more solidly on the Panny adapter 2 1/4 turns or maybe the olympus Tcon-17 which threads less solidly on with only 3/4 turn.

Just can't get close enough insome cases with just 12x

I bought mine from Viking too the evening before Outpost dropped the price. I thought hard about returning to Viking and buying from Outpost to save twenty bucks. I got turned off when the shipping at check out was higher than the web page indicated. Viking delivers fast too. Got the camera on second day.

So does the TL-55 attaches directly to the camera or via the adaptor tube? I haven't even opened the package yet.

Check out dpreview.com under forums/panasonic-talk and do a search for "yoshida"
He's some dude in japan that makes metal adapters for the FZ1 (and FZ10's) specifically for those tele's.
He's got a funky way of buying from him, but there's plenty of satisfied customers around dpreview.com.

I've read that people learn their lesson after their tele falls off the adapter, and then buys the yoshida-adapter. They're a bit pricey, but far less than replacing a broken Tcon-17.

Still lets you add to shopping cart. Wonder why.

Are you sure they have been increasing in price? As they continue to go out of production, I can only imagine they would drop the price to clear them out.

first, I was about to order from Viking yesterday, and in mid purchase, the price switched right after I added that coupon and went up to 399...

Then... I saw the sale on Outpost. I ordered it, entered the wrong zip code, same city zip code, but not the same, and emailed htem about it. They cancelled the friggin order. I should have just let it be, UPS would have figured it out. gah.

So... yah, no camera. agh.

Aureias - I would order it from VikingOP if you really want it 'cause they're going fast. I read that VikingOp, Computers4sure, Solutions4sure, Officetechcenter are all Office Depot companies and I believe they (incl OD) share the same distribution centers throughout the country. The computers4sure website is showing 67 units of the silver and 1 unit of the black in stock. Although the price on the Computers4sure site is astornomically high $385(s) and $405(b), I think that the quantities shown are representative of what's available to Viking as well. BTW, I had to call up also in order to get the 20% discount.

Viking price is still the same for me. Are you sure they switched the price to $399?

Strictly a matter of supply and demand. I saw the price at Onecall went up since last month.

hmmm... interesting! Unless I was having hallucinations, I saw the price at 399 for like at least the past 18 hours. However, I just checked again, and the price is back to what it was. Thanks for questioning me, hurrah! Mine's on its way :)

Can't wait. :)

Now... to get some memory...

You weren't hallucinating. If you go to Viking thru Fat Wallet cash backs or other online cash back/rebate sites, the prices are wildly different than entering the Viking site directly. In this case the price of the camera jumps to $399.99. Many sites have higher prices if you use a cash back affiliate (some have lower prices!) You just gotta be careful.

By the way, I put the camera in my Cart at the $279 price (before 20% coupon) and then leave Viking site, and then go back into Viking thru my chubby wallet cash back affiliate and what cha know ... the price of the camera (still in my cart) is $120 higher !!! Try it !
