This is a micro 4/3rds camera which means:
* It's the size of a compact camera -- you can fit it in you pocket with a prime lens (not so much with a zoom lens)
* It has a sensor almost as large as a dSLR. Its photos will be much better than those on a compact camera, not quite as good as a dSLR. (ok, that's simplifying it a lot)
* There is no viewfinder, you'll use the rear LCD for framing and focusing.
* This camera can use interchangeable lenses. The included lens is a wide-angle prime lens, which means it doesn't zoom, and that it takes relatively wide-angle shots.

if you want a GF series camera get one of these as panasonic keeps nerfing each subsequent version. in not too much time they'll get rid of the shutter button and make you tap on the screen like an iphone.
